A couple of helpful tips for those who still have some decent Elderberries left on the trees.

1. Use a kitchen fork to de-berry the stalks back at base.

2. Do it over a sink/bucket of cold water - the ripe berries will sink and the unripe or not-fully ripe ones will float making it easy to separate them. The occasional unripe one may be dragged to the bottom if it is still attached to a ripe one.

Thanks for these tips. My neighbour has just moved out and his elder berry tree over hangs my garden. I shall go harvest some elderberries. Know of any recipes I could use?

Or when you have heaps- use an afro comb instead of a fork ;-)
