View Full Version : duluth long bedroll
does anyone on this forum own one of these, if so do you know the weight of the bedroll and how waterproof is it, could it be used in a light rain shower or would you definetly have to be under a hootdhie at all times, im thinking of getting one from tamarack or from the usa unless someone can do a swap/sell. but i will check that out in the classified section.

Wayland had the standard size one maybe he could help you with weight etc, i was going to get one but never got round to it, i have used a wartime canvas bedroll in the past(similar sort of design) and a light shower you may get away with or cold and frosty, but not a down pour, they are more a extra layer/protective layer for your blankets-or sleeping bag etc, i would still use something underneath them in this country especially on grass, and a tarp or similar over the top, to me they are best suited to dry sandy or desert climates, extra protection when the temp drops and keeps sparks of you when lay round a fire.
Thanks Andy, some good sensible advice there, you have probably saved me £230, as i do get carried away when im online looking at lovely new kit, im afraid i always come down with a bad dose of shiney syndrome - all that kit just looks so shiney to me, it all just cries out "buy me buy me" - then i find out the lovely scottish climate usually takes the shineyness away and i wake up with a wet sleeping bag, thanks mate

You'd be better off with an army issue bivibag and a tarp/basha/hootchie Colin.
Decathlon do a sleep system which contains an inflatable mat, sleeping bag and pillow which could roll up nicely in a bivibag.

You could try a swag. A bit cheaper and more waterproof

I was meant to be being sent one for review but it has not happened yet so can't comment on quality.
I've just bought a true ozzy swag shipped direct from ozz. All going well I'll be trying it out this weekend and maybe doing a write up on it later.
