Thought I would ask here, as then I might get some BB coverage as well ;)

I am trying to source a supplier of good quality waterstones. Possibly a 1200/6000 combination (although singles would be fine).

All info appreciated. PM me if the reply is not suitable :biggthump

Are you looking for a wholesale suppiler?

I use one of these (http://www.spejder-sport.dk/templates/Product_big.asp?ProductGuid=39 4976). It seems to do the job and it was only £5. Before i sharpen, I soak it in water and after that strop the knife on any piece of leather or belt available. Simple is that.

very well , sounds like we have the same knife , waterstones are exellent , i got a builder to cut my combo in half with a diamond cutter ,its perfect for slotting into a small space and keeping your edge razor ,good to use on an axe too if you`re taking one with you, just have to rotate the stone to keep it even, i`d recomend you get one mate , hope that is helpful, cheers al

Al, how wide is that stone? And when you say cut in half, is that longitudinally?

its 5cm wide and its been cut in half width ways too, make sense ? :-)

Al, I think I understand. The original 8"x2"x1" [20cmx5cmx2.5cm] block is cut twice to supply four equally sized trail blocks whose surface area is about 10cmx2.5cm each.

Given that you are getting 4 stones out of a sub £14 purchase is great. But even more attractive is the fact that you get to use in the field the tool of choice you would employ at home instead of using an agressive diamond-based product [however convenient that might be to carry].

Bravo

Hmmmm. That makes them £7 each and quite a bit chunkier......I might try the twice cut option I listed below. Thanks for the idea!

Mal, I use a GB ice hockey puck for all field maint, in base camp (home ect) I use all three grinds (both the course (grey) and the fine (yellow) come with the (red) medium) and I use each as is needed, of course the medium grit gets the most wear as the course is only needed for repair and the fine is only used when finishing up to remove the 'wire' before stropping.
