Hi, I have the DD camping hammock and just wanted to make sure I could do this. I want to slee inside the zip bit on a camping mat using a sleeping bag as a quilt.

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? The only reason I am wondering is because Id be sleeping on one layer rather than two.

Thanks :o

No reason why you can't,I'd be a bit concerned about condensation though.

Thanks for that, just my paranoia sparking up :)

I don't think condensation would be too much of a worry as I'd have the zip open near my head so that I wouldn't get any damp from my breath and that would help with the breathableness of the whole thing.

I don't mind waking up and being damp the fist time I try it but I wouldn't like waking up with a hole in my hammock!

The DD Travel hammock has waterproof layers to allow you to do this.

I am not sure about the Camping hammock. It doesn't say you can or can't on their website:

Martin: I would be sleeping under a tarp so it wouldn't matter about rain.

I had a look on their website about the camping hammock and it does actually say you can sleep inside it:

Its features include a two layer design which allows cocoon like sleeping. Alternatively you can lie out in the open (on top of both layers) with the option to put a thermarest/pad between the layers as insulation in winter.

I tried having the mat in between the layer and lying on top but I felt that if I moved I would fall off, really unstable and it's a long way down! If I go in between with the mat there is no chance of me falling off.

Until you've spent a couple nights in it they feel a bit weird! I've yet to fall out of mine, best thing to do is get out and try whatever you want to do. You'll soon find what works for you and what doesn't... you can always hang it low and not have far to fall but I highly doubt you will. Get in and move about and see what happens and you'll be comfortable knowing they're more stable than they first appear.
