Came accross this earlier today in a completley unrelated google search.
Self heated tinned food?????

Has anyone tried this or similar, I'm tempted to try some purley out of curiosity.

I've tried them, very heavy and expensive.
Not a fan.

Tried em - not impressed!
Heavy, bulky, and lots of rubbish to dispose of!
I bet they'd go down well at music festivals though...

O.K thanks. I must be bored at work internet access can be a dangerous thing sometimes but I did place an order to try something similar from hotboxfood.com as they are on offer and in a box rather than a can.
To be fair, i dont intend to use these when i'm out walking, more for use in a canoe so I can focus on heating water for the all important cuppa but short brew stop.

Some of the US varieties look interesting, but weight, excess packaging and cost steered me towards Travellunch meals, which only need boiling water and taste lovely (a factor often overlooked!).

We had them in our Mountain Rescue van for prolonged searches. They're good enough when you're hungry. Wayfarer do exactly the same thing but with a USA style MRE water based pouch which are better for packing.
Tried one three or four years back, they are OK. Not a new idea, Heinz (amongst others) were producing similar towards the end of WW2
If you go to Spain on holiday, look in the bigger supermarkets, you often find self heathing trays of food, things like muscle or rabbit stew on sale.
