Hi Everyone

We are going to 'attempt' to organise a little get together for the weekend of the 24th and 25th of July.
I have two woods near me in Somerset that are about a mile apart that we can use (neither have fresh water though but my house is a mile away) it may be a case of bring bottled water / water containers.

The woods are not massive but if we use both there is probably enough room for 20 of us.
I will also have some home brew wine for the wknd and maybe Cider (not home brewed but brewed by local farmer).

The location will be pretty much next to the A303 - there is parking available on private land at one of the sites but very limited parking at the other 4 or 5 cars max.

So lets start talking and organising and hopefully have a two good wknds with good weather and good camping.

i've started a list below, add your name if you wanna come:

If anyone fancies a bit of bow drill, I've got a ton of sycamore and ivy suitable for the bottom block.

Just been reading BR thread on Curry's.

Just wonder if everyone wants to have a communal meal 'curry night' + beers??

Need a biggish pot. If not curry or if every one wants to just cook for themselves , thats cool , just thought i would throw the idea of a big-old curry night out there.....

Jaysurfer
13-07-2009, 14:00
Tree dwelling is all good - i'm sure there is enough of everything for everyone. Just need to try and figure out which wood is best to use as both have positives n negatives.

A communal meal would be fantastic - has anyone got a Dutch Oven?

Hi all,

I'd like to come along, but I dont drive. Can I get there or there about on the train and walk in?

Also be aware that if you let me come alone, you will have a noob in your mists!

Jaysurfer
13-07-2009, 17:08
Thats showing dedication Lamper...
Unfortunately being in the middle of the countryside walking from a train station isn't really possible. I am sure none of us mind having a novice there though and i wouldn't even call myslef a know it all lol

I am sure that i could pick you up from a train station but it would be dependent on times of arrival.
The closest train stations would be Sherborne, Yeovil or Castle Cary.
Would you be looking at coming down on the Friday or Saturday?

J

Just checked the train times for Yeovil. I could be there for 1pm on the Friday. I'd need a lift back to the station after though.

Need to sweet talk my boss now!

Jaysurfer
14-07-2009, 10:15
Ok mate
I won't be able to pick you up until later on the Friday as I am at work but taking u back to the train station is no problem. do you know what return times are looking like?

lamper
14-07-2009, 10:51
Trains look like they will be at 20 past the hour every hour.

Thanks for helping me out. Still need to see if I can get Friday off. I'll post later on today.

Steve M
14-07-2009, 14:11
I might not be able to make it until the Saturday.

Do we have any probs with k-9 companions coming along jay as I'd like to bring mine?

lamper
14-07-2009, 15:07
All,

Troubles with work might mean I can only make Saturday and if thats the case I might have to bail on this on. Brighton to Yeovil and back in one say is little far. I'll update if anything changes.

Jaysurfer
14-07-2009, 16:15
As long as your K9 gets on with ohter K9's Craven as i will have mine also.

Steve turn up when you want mate

yeah she's fine! least she'll have someone to play with! what have you got?

Jaysurfer
15-07-2009, 12:05
Well....
I have a 4 yr old Flat Coat Retriever.
However from the 24th my family are going on holiday and i am also looking after 3 Golden Retrievers but i think i'll probably have them with be during the day and take them home at night and then just keep my Flat Coat with me for the night exercise with the others guarding the house.

It'll be the first time she'll of come hammock camping with me so should be fun lol

15-07-2009, 13:53
cool, don't know how you r going to get much bushcraft done though with four dogs to watch!!

Jaysurfer
15-07-2009, 14:04
I doubt it - but then i think as it is my event i'd probably be too busy making sure everyone else is enjoying themselves to do bushcraft stuff.
Besides apart from walking around and collecting stuff and cooking - my bushcraft is usually led in a hammock reading a book lol

I'll be free and able to join in the night time drinking and fire conversations tho!! Planning on doing some Cherry Vodka thjis week for it....

Can't make it... :( Will be on my way to Uganda for a short business trip...

I'll be in the UK throughout August and at least the first half of september, although much of this will be spent looking after the expected puppies which are due mid-august.... :)

Jaysurfer
15-07-2009, 22:32
Thats a shame Outdoorgirl.
What breed will the pups be?
i'm sure we will see you at somepoint - hopefully.

Hi Everyone

As we are only four days away from the possible meet up can everyone let me know if they are definetly coming?

J

So the time draws near people, are we doing a group feed or sorting ourselves? What's the final number?
I will be there j

Jaysurfer
20-07-2009, 11:05
Well thats definetly two of us lol
I am quite happy for us to do a group feed however i don't have the appliences to do one - i'm a lightweight buschcrafter so no cast iron dutch oven in my rucksack unfortunately....
Think if we keep meeting like this though I may have to purchase more stuff.

There is a Spar not that far away from the woods and a McDonalds (YUK) if people need anything last minute and Yeovil Tesco / Asda is only 15 mins away and 24 hours if anyone needs anything.

20-07-2009, 18:42
at last count there was seven of us, is that still the case?
has any one got a good size tarp we an use as a group shelter for just sitting around doing stuff under as the weather seems a little unsure of itself? if not i may be able to lay my hands on one if thats the route we want to go down, any thoughts??

TeeDee
20-07-2009, 19:17
Just got back from Shadowhawk course for a few days, hence why i have'nt commented.

Have a good time folks (Not a problem if some of the SW members I met at Daves turn up!)
If there is any chance of photos that would be great.
Cheers y'all!.
Chris.

Jaysurfer
21-07-2009, 01:31
Fantastic
JoyR said something bout coming so i will PM her...
If there is only a hand full of us we can park the cars at the woods.

i might be able to lay my hands on some other equipment as i have a set of keys to the local scout stores but i know they all go on scout camp this coming wknd so i don't know what kit will be available....

Play it by ear i expect.

craven
21-07-2009, 09:37
Well if there isn't much parking we can always stick all the gear in my Vw to take up to the wood!

Jaysurfer
21-07-2009, 13:14
Well depending on numbers everyone can first come up the woods drop gera off and then move cars - we can play it by ear.

TeeDee
21-07-2009, 21:57
So who is coming? I make that four??

Jaysurfer
22-07-2009, 17:05
Mace 242 is coming but only on the Sat (I don't know if he is staying over night)...
So yes it looks like four of us at the moment - which for a first wknd in my woods is ideal.
I have sent a PM to JoyR but have not had any response yet.

My mobile number is: 07830 426654 if any of you want to contact me.
I was considering doing a pit fire n leg of lamb on the sunday as a end of the meet feast, what do you think?
I will also bring home grown veg to have with it, the lamb will probably come from a local farm shop.

Let me know your thoughts.

JGiven that this forum is watched by hundreds of none members, and not all of them ‘good blokes’, I'm not sure that publishing your mobile is that good an idea, mayhaps it would be better to PM those persons whom you think may need the number

Jaysurfer

I'm not bothered... it is only a mobile number.
If those 'NON good blokes' want to contact me they can, they wont get very far lol

Well I don't know what u guys think but as there is only a few of us shall we meet up and then decide on the food situation as a group? Or would u all prefer to sort yourselves?

Jaysurfer
23-07-2009, 08:48
I am more than happy to do it either way.
If we do want to do a bit of a feast like i said before i can provide any veg we need and there is a farm Deli not far away.
