View Full Version : not bushcraft but...
I'm after a new 10" cooks knife - the favourite at the moment= Wusthof classic, tried Global etc and didn't like them - to light/ cheap feeling.
However, what I really want is a knife very similar to the Wusthof but made in Sheffield. I go to Sheffield most weeks and I like to but local and after all we know about Sheffield and it history.
I've seen some on the web, but I want to feel the knife before I buy. So does anyone know of any out lets in the town for local quality cook knives?
Oh I cann't access BB either so link there aren't much good.
Cheers
Ed.. if you cant access British Blades you might want to PM Andy.. he has delt with a knife maked called JAdams(iirc) who makes excelent cooks knives in Sheffield see this link (http://www.bushcraftuk.net/community/showthread.php?t=3649)
Right
go to a little shop on West street. It's called Mortons. I'll give the the phone number in a PM if you want but I don't give it out in public. It's just by the tram stop. It sells the JAdams knives at about the same price as I do. the 10inch is about £16 IIRC. You could go right to Jack if you go past West bar police station. This wont save you much money but Jacks nice to talk to.
It's a proper cutlers shop with all sorts of silverware as well as knives. I recommend him rather then sheffield scene as he knows what he's on about. Mortons can get just about anything that Hennie Haynes can knife wise apart from spyderco and fallkniven.
PS get the silver hip flask in the shape of a mobile phone, you know you want to

Also, if you are partial to carbon steel, check the back of Backwoodsman Magazine!!!! Charlie Richie, the Editor, also sells Carbon steel butcher knive for ountain man recreators!! :biggthump
the JAdams knives can be in carbon or stainless. You can get plastic handle ones if you want but I'm not keen on them. The carbon ones are a bit cheeper but Mortons doesn't sell them. If you would can't get in on a wek day I expect to collect a few more knives so would be happy to pick it up and you collect from me. You wouldn't get to see Jack or Mortons though
one thing to remember about th J Aadams knives is the wood isn't treated. Just wipe the blades down when your washing them. a good beeswax tbased treatment is good for them if you want.
