Snowdonia camping recommendation?

The joys of being laid off!

As I now have more "me time" and I have now sorted out my benefits and creditors (they're not a happy bunch!) I can get out and camp during the week. I ride a motorbike so would like to combine the two, and head off for a few days on the bike and string a hammock up in the evenings.

Can anyone recommend a quiet minimalist location somewhere in mid/north wales?

I'm looking for;
- cheep
- secluded/private
- safe enough to leave my kit unattended for a couple of hours
- water supply

Not asking for much I know!

Good camp sites in Beddgelert , Capel Curig, base of Tryfan. Also a decent one in Betws y Coed. Disclaimer, its a few years since I used any of them , but I'm aiming to change that this year. Most of them are used by hill walkers rather than your chav types so tend to have a better vibe in my view.

Not sure if you would get a hammock up there but you could still bivi it using poles for the lightweight option.
I'm not sure if the woods there belong to the owner, you could always ask!
As for safety my mates & I, we were gone all day out on the hills and left our stuff with no problems!
It was very quiet and scenic, not far from Cardigan, Betws-y-coed & Port Madog.
There was showers / washing utilities & fresh water.
They also have fire pits on site, but you have to buy wood from the owner!

Nice basic site at £4 pppn. They allow fires and will even sell you firewood for £1 a sack.

We've stayed there many times summer and winter.

Having been up to Snowdonia a few weeks ago, I (jealously!) noted a few campers in Capel Curig, camped on the edges of fields etc, with car/bike parking next to Tryfan (EXCELLENT scramble for reference :) ), and close enough to Betws-y-coed for any supplies.

Seconded. Amazing site. Great views and on a clear day you can see your tent from the top of tryfan :) Lots of space and can camp by the river if you want to. Running water and a shower if you need it round the back (better than the hostels showers haha)

I can highly recommend farm camping at Gwern Gof Uchaf (not to be confused with the farm next door which is Gwern Gos Isaf and also does camping)

On the A5 in the Ogwen Valley between Capel Curig and Bethesda - it's the SECOND farm campsite you pass on the left.


Right at the foot of tryfan - £4 per person per night - bit minimalist, but all you need is there. Camp up on the hilly bit to the left of the approach road. much nicer than the open field below. Situated right at the foot of tryfan.

I camped there with my 3 boys last year - left ouf stuff thre every day for 4 days - pretty safe.

Bryn Williams, the farmer, is a really nice guy and deserves support, as the farming side of things is very tough these days.

and if you want to, you can just park your car there with your kit in the boot - parking costs £1 per day.
