After seeing this 'whittlers puzzle' in a woodcarving wood, I decided to give it a go;

basically a simple set of pliers carved (very roughly) of a single piece of birch;

I have future plans to make a set of salad style tongs in a similar style, but I was just wondering if anyone else has a 'whittlers puzzle' to show?

I have an old thing that looks like a magazine rack carved from one piece.ill post a pic of it tomorrow...
Its made in almost the same way as the tongs pictured above.Just imagine them alot wider...

how do you make it? and does it actually move?

The two pieces move independantly, mine did move and work very well- to be snapped by one of my students being a bit heavy handed;
