Hi Jake,
I can't see the pics whats the knife.
James
It's an Allan Blade bushcrafter with a satin rub finish, curly maple scales, and mosaic pins! :yikes: POSH OR WHAT?
I need to take Tomtom up on his offer of hosting the pics for me, as they're not working here for some reason!

Sorry I am now Jealous and you a have spoiled my entire day. :nono:
No just kidding. It's sounds like a great knife and I hope in the new year to get on myself. So enjoy it when you get it and off course give us a full review.
James
James, order one now, it's a 3 month wait so it'll then be with you come feb. You only have to pay once it is made! Now i have a digi, all i have to do is figure out the software and the hosting malarky and i'll be going photo crazy for a few months to make up for my lack of photo participation!
There are also loads of options....you choose! I'll tell you what mine feels like.

Jake I know you changed the spec for the handle from coffin to full tang but from the picture it looks like the grind is also a full flat grind rather than a scandi grind, which is the normal for a Bushcrafter. A full flat grind will be sharper but harder to sharpen and not as strong an edge (due to the narrower angle).
As an aside I believe my Runt will be posting next week so that is something to look forward too.
Cheers John, i think i't will be nice having a change to my convex outfit! Do you have any full flat grind knives? What are they like?

OK Jake now you have made me Jealous. I am off to talk to Allan.
Questions: Is it a mortise tang? and did you get any extras on the sheath?
James
I got adjustable carry (i think) and a firesteel holder. And a full tang.
(do you like my new avatar? )
James, im sorry mate, blame Magikelly!!! :rolmao:

Thanks for that I have decided on something similar myself with regard the carry system. I also would be more comfortable with the full tang as well but I'll have to talk to Allen.
Oh and I do like the Avatar but is a bit like rubbing it in. :nono:

Jake looks great. As you say posh :biggthump.
The coffin tang is really nice I wouldn't be too worried about full tang James.
Are they your pics jake or did allan send them to you? If they are yours then what camera did you get?
Enjoy the knife.

I would say a coffin tang gives a better knife. Just as strong as a full tang but the tang is better protected from rust etc.
As to the full flat grind I do not have any knifes like that. I would be a little concerned about the edge because of the narrow angle but it will make it very sharp and good for working with wood.
I'll be interested to see the Multi Carry Sheath.

A full flat grind will be sharper but harder to sharpen and Just to clarify I mean harder because you have to remove more metal the actual process will be dead simple as laying the blade on the stone will automatically line it up for sharpening.
Cool, im sure it'll be great. Be interesting on how this knife performs with that rather unusual edge!
Bill, Allan sent them to me. I have a new camera one of those digital jobbies! My first digi that works! I'll get some pics up hopefully saturday!

superb addition to the Rollnick clan,Jake.
May I suggest a piece of elastic tied to the lanyard hole and then run up the sleeves of your jacket and the north star tied on the other end. :nana:
I'm not jelous......much

I think paracord rather than elastic, we don't want Jake walking around with a black eye now, do we :rolmao: :rolmao:
Dave
P.S. - nice knife there Jake
Or worse :yikes:
Cheers guys. I was hoping it would, for some reason, be here now. Alas, not to be! Lets hope tomorrow. :o):
hope the post people didnt save you the trouble of loosing it yourself (or just stole it)
Im hoping too Andy! I doubt it though, Allan only sent it tuesday!
I got my calypso from the US quicker then I got my kitchen knife back from the passaround (4 days for first class)

Andy, that is much too pretty to cut nasty dirty wood with.
Have fun with it.
I hope Andy's not gonna steal my knife!
Nasty wood was it's purpose, but it may be a bit more of a drawer queen than the NS!

Im sorry!!! I said it and i take it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also think im gonna get another Allan Blade! This time with a Scandi and some other sort of features :o): ideas? It's gonna have to wait mind
IT'S HERE!!
Wow, what a knife, what a craftsman. It fits my hand *so* well, and feels like a worker...even though it is as posh as it is!
I have to say i agree with Magikelly, so far, i prefer it to my WS but we'll see how it performs. I just got paid for some work i did ages ago that i'd forgotten about so couldn't resist the urge. Must have another  . Scandi with ******** (dark wood) scales (deleted for reasons i'll disclose later  ) satin rub finish and a lanyard loop.
:o):
BTW how does one attach the adjustable carry loop? Can't seem to figure it.

Is this a Scandi Bushcrafter or Pack Pal? Either way good to have another convert.:-)
Full flat bushcrafter...and yes, im sort of a "convert". Any idea on the carry thing?

I know that, I meant your next one, is it going to be a Bushcrafter or Pack Pal.
Hmmm...im thinking bushcrafter again....they're so nice :approve:
Right you are Jake. One can never have too many of Allan's knives. :biggthump Now I wonder when my scandi packpal will show up...

huum.. hoodoo like that far right one.. still dont want to give it to meee huh?
Hi Jake I´m in the order process of one Allna Bushcrafer my only doub is about handel shape.
Is confortable to make feather sticks, you know a lot forec and press against your palm?
It seems a little squary in finger and back palm zones.
enjoy
huum.. hoodoo like that far right one.. still dont want to give it to meee huh?
tomtom, tomtom, tomtom... Dream on bud! :rolmao:
:1244::1244::1244: sure you will come round to the idea if i keep at it..
Hoodoo, is the nessmuk a user?!
Faca, it feels real nice in my hand thus far. I've only tried it out on a little piece of wood but i can't imagine problems. I'll let you know though.
How do i attach the adjustable carry then? :?:
Hoodoo, is the nessmuk a user?!
Only when I use it. :-D

But does it work well as a user? Does it come in Kydex, somehow i don't think a nessmuk and kydex suit each other!
It came with a kydex sheath because Allan doesn't make leather sheaths so I made a leather sheath for it. I have to admit that it is currently a drawer queen. I'm sure it would be a great hunting knife but for woodcraft, I need to thin out and convex the edge a bit.
http://www4.gvsu.edu/triert/images8/abnessmuksheath1c.jpg
At any rate, it's no big deal because I have a wonderful "user Nessmuk" from racquette which got a good workout on a spike buck this year.
http://www4.gvsu.edu/triert/images8/dalesnessmuk2b.jpg
This is the sheath I made for it.
http://www4.gvsu.edu/triert/images8/nessmuksheath1c.jpg
Nice one Hoodoo. Do you reckon it's possible to convex edges with stones?
*add* not a big convexing job, just slightly on the bevel.
Absolutely. Many years ago all I ever used for convex edges was a stone. A hard Arkansas stone is great for maintaining a convex edge. The main thing you want to do first is knock the corner off the V. Sometimes if the V is pretty steep, sharpening with a mousepad/sandpaper sharpener can round off the edge if you are not careful. So, if I am doing some major convexing of the edge and I'm in a hurry, I will first knock the corner off with a stone, then smooth it out with a mousepad/sandpaper sharpener.
Hand sanders like the one below can be purchased at local hardware stores, chucked into a vise, and used with wet/dry sand paper to put a nice wicked convex edge on a knife, axe, or machete. For really tough jobs I use my 72 inch belt grinder.
http://www4.gvsu.edu/triert/images8/sander1b.jpg
I think it is just a case of knocking the corner off slightly, i may even get away with doing it on a 1000 grit waterstone :?:
No-one has any ideas on how the adjustable carry is done then??
Are you talking cordage Jake? If so I'll show you in Jan but I cant type it out here - far easier to show.
Maybe little things like that are were we justify courses and meet ups!
no, it's a little piece of kydex that i can't somehow figure how to attach to enable cross carry. But what your talking about sounds interesting?!
Thanks mate.

Hey,
The Clip on belt loop is easy to put on,,, just unscrew the fixed belt loop from the sheath,,,,, turn the sheath horizontal, take the clip on belt loop, it is drilled to line up with the same holes as in the fixed belt loop and use the extra screws i sent witht he clip on loop to attach it to the sheath, easy and simple and works well too.
Regards, Allan

Allan, you need to update your web address in your signature. No rush though you can do it after you get back from the Post Office
Sounds interesting - does this alternation clip come with the fire steel loop sheaths too?!!
I think I will have to do a full review - including the sheath - with pictures - once I get mine.
Only a lot of weeks to wait .......
Still, mum always said good things come to those who wait - :nana:
Including firesteel holder
Cheers Allan. I'll give it a go.
