Got myself a lathe a few weeks ago and have spent a few afternoons getting the hang of it - just knocked these up yesterday and they have come out quite nicely.

All 6mm steels set in Beech.

Also knocked up a stem vase............

Very enjoyable to make and quite theraputic. :)

Nice work fella

I got offered a lathe for free a few months back and had to turn in it down due to lack of space ;(
I could see myself geting locked away in the workshop for many hours churning out alsorts of round things.

Nice, make some honey drippers next, similar but require burnt rings. We use parting tools for the burnt rings.

Oooooh, like those! Looks like you're getting the hang of it.

My Grandad got hit in the face by a half done bowling pin once. Make sure everything is secure and stand to one side when you start up the machine. But yes, very theraputic when it all goes well.

Hope you have many happy hours turning big lumps of wood into small round things and lots of shavings.

Nice work - what sort of steels are they - i.e. from which supplier? I bought a couple of useless ones off ebay recently.

Thanks for the comments fellas. I think I'll bung these on the 'bay to fund more projects.

Most are from Brisa, the long one is an eBay job - seems to be pretty good.

They're cracking! I've got one of those beds you can use with a powerdrill, cheap but slow and tricky do anything more complex than this;

It's more sanding than actual turning, would love to get something better, what lathe did you get?

I got some firesteels off of this guy (http://firesteel.co.uk/) were OK once you get through a protective coating.

Cheers,

Alan

I got a Clarke lathe like this one:

Mine was from eBay and cost £50 inc. postage!
