On a survival course with the military in the New Forset again in April, does anyone need a blade tested for two weeks. Give me a pm, can pass on other blades for testing to my other team mates if need be.

Regards

Jay

Oh dear, that bright duct tape and red paracord should immediately be replaced with black or green, and the Battle Bar should be cammo'd up, this is a survival course with the military, not a high-vis safety excercise for civvies!http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv29/helixpteron/happy0009.gif

Somehow, I suspect that the request may yield few donors.http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv29/helixpteron/sad0068.gif

How would you test the knives differently than the makers themselves or most other members here could could? Just curious :)

Also, might be asking a bit much to ask people to just send you knives seeing as you're quite new here. Not meaning anything bad by that at all, just saying I'd be happier sending a knife to somebody with a few more posts etc.

Cheers

Graham does it come any bigger, those ships hatches normaly need some explosives to open them somewhat,Thanks for trying though. Scottish wolf you right, low posts and just making a offer to test the knifes in a multipul of areas from land, sea, air combat. the lads are always looking for the knife that does it all. Not saying that a bushknife will fair well when we dive or be much use when we jump, but thats what the trials is for. All knifes would be return, cant say that they would be the same as when given, well tested yes.
Hope this puts some peoples minds at rest, I like to think myself as a good man that will help people in need, not a thief out for a cheap ride.

cheers.

Gosh, I was once told by a hairy old chief diver that my trusty issue pussers dirk was all a man could ever want for. The blade could chop trees, scare fuzzy wuzzys and skin whales the marlin spike could even be used to open red grenades. Todays matelot is clearly not so easily fooled. Either standards of procurement have slipped or expectations have been cruelly raised. Good luck !!

I have a spare Gerber LMF, I think it's been tested in the US for military use. I can't give it away but I can sell it reasonably priced if thats what you're looking for?

What sort of tests will you be doing?

Deeps this matelot is mixed with marine, you know thats a bad combination. if its shiney steal it and its got to be bootie proof, but not to sharp or expensive because we cant be trusted with much more then a dinner knife.
Boops its just to get a idea if a knife give you blisters when chopping, that it does not bend or handles fall off. is the sheaf manly enough ie sog seal pup sheaf popped at the rivited join halfway down the sheaf leaving me with no knife on a dive. Rust proof, one handed cutting if hung up or tangled, multi choice fitting points etc

The list goes on lol

Cool! I just wondered if the testing would be to destruction?! Mors recommends in his book that a knife should be tough enough to be hammered into a tree and then stand on the handle to see if it will support your weight.

I'm sure the LMF is strong enough for that and the sheath system is versatile and very tough,I have my reservations about its use as a knife thats all?!

When you say hung up or tangled, do you mean parachuting? Only I've done a few static line jumps (dope on a rope) and we weren't carrying knives? If a rescue knife was needed I'd deffo take a serrated blade like the Spyderco Rescue knife, a mate of mine was issued one in service for paramedic/rescue work.

What will your training course include? I would imagine that for activities like diving, parachuting and survival then specialist blades may be required for each separate activity, I'd deffo be interested if you found a 'one-stop solution'. I know most course providers use Frost blades due to availability and price, so thats what I would personally stick with!

If you can PM me with a military address (to show you're not a 14-yr old schoolie!!) then I can send the Gerber for testing, but only if you are able to give it a good thrashing and post the photos on here. Apart from taking an angle-grinder to it, I defy you and your muckers to destroy it in hard use!

Hope it goes well, have you got any different knives to use yet?

Cheers,

Boops :)

SPAG Gord bless um - those swim boys know how to rack up subsistence payments.

Once heard in control room of a boat I was on " Chuffin Hell sir - its just started raining fat stokers and nurses !"

... take a good deep breath.
