Yesterday my eldest had the day off (inset day) so i took him out round our local mossland.
theres a brook that runs not to far from ours and the path takes you up into some wonderfull woodland and he was fascinated. As was i!

found some interesting things too!

Hairy stereum is what i first thought but then looking it up i'm thinking possibly blushing bracket?

this next set i've no idea what it is, it looked like a fungus but there are saplings growing out of it?
a few tree's seemed infected!

Looks like you had a nice day out and found yourself a vertitable mine of Birch burls. :D Do you have permission to harvest wood from there Pete. If you do then you've got some nice carving wood for future projects.

Not sure about the first photos but the last one is definitely a Wood Elf..:D :D

wood elf.......? no its a burro hobbit!!

nice pics Pete will pm you shortly ref a forthcoming trip to the lakes, i need to escape before i get more decorating to do.

Those are some fair size burls. There will be a lot of nice grain structure in them. Good for kuksa's etc.
