Newbie Kit Question

I'm very new to bushcraft and have just started buying/making kit and practicing in the garden etc.

I came across this piece of kit, on sale at Aldi (of all places) on 4th November and I wondered whether you folks thought it was worth the money?

If it does what it says on the tin, it might be a handy bit of kit.

Cheap as you don't have to keep paying out for batteries. People often use dynamo torches for emergency kits because you can pack them with no fear of the battries having leaked when you come to use them a long time later. Your hand might get a bit tired if you use it for a long time.

Just one thing comes to mind after buying a cheapie "gizmo" from Lidl myself and having to take it back: when you head for the outdoors you're limited in what you take by weight. What you do take, you may need to rely on.

You may come seriously unstuck if your only torch / light / knife / firelighter whatever fails just when you need it.

This lamp looks like good fun, but if you get one, test it thoroughly before you trust it and take it back if it's not up to the job.

good for having around, not sure about putting in a backpack

I do have a torch from there which is great, it uses an energy saving buld and throws the light in a wide angle to light the whole tent (or bedroom)

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I hadn't thought about the weight compared to other torches (it has a flywheel aparently).

I'll get one anyway and see how durable/waterproof it is.

My take on that would be that it's no more a gadget or a gizmo than a candle, unless you're making the candle yourself from scratch.
