Safety pins

These are always recommended and I carry about 7 of them myself in three sizes.
But I virtually never use them, if I have stitching to do I have a very well to do sewing kit and usually several types of thread.

Does anyone actually use theirs, is my question and how have you done so?

I use safety pins as clothes pegs, stops my socks from blowing away...

Only used one once when I lost the button off my trousers at the beginning of a trip.

For clothes pegs I use womens little (usually black) hair clips, on spectra line, thin and strong, and the clips hold very very well.
