What size are her feet ? If they're little, I find North Face ones are waaaaay too hard to get soft enough for comfort for months.Hi tec were comfortable but the grip wasn't so hot.
Merrell were good but didn't last long, Brasher's were awfully heavy.

cheers,

Sorry, just re read your question; I haven't helped with my reply :o I haven't really found a pair I could recommend whole heartedly for the kind of use your Mum needs.

cheers,

I got these for my girlfriend a good while ago: http://www.brasher.co.uk/catalogue/products/supalitetmgtx-supawn041

Importantly if they are going to be used infrequently... they took absolutely no breaking in... none at all. They are also the ultralight models and do what they say on the box. Well worth findng a stockist and trying them on in my girlfriends opinion.
