Hi all,

I've lurked on the board for a while, but I can't resist joining any longer. I already spend way too much time on forums, so what's a bit longer each day?

I own a small online outfit that sells camping/backpacking items like firesteels, waterproof containers, carabiners, etc. and keep on seeing traffic coming to me from this site, so I poke around here every now and then. I like what you all have going here, so I will stick around and learn what I can and share the wee bit of knowledge that I have when appropriate. I like to make videos of skills (mostly fire, I like playing with fire more than normal people), write articles about skills, and do whatever I can to spread my hobbies to others.

I am a mix of old and new. I like starting fires and practicing skills in ways that are way more difficult than they need to be, but I also have the latest and greatest outdoor gear with me on backpacking trips. My friends always make fun of me when I bust out a firesteel, so you can imagine how they react when I pull out the fire piston or, heaven forbid, start using a friction technique. This is done while wearing a way too expensive Gore-Tex Pro Shell jacket and lots of polyester and merino wool, with an HD camcorder documenting the process. It's like my brain can't decide between the redneck and techie influences around me. :)

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi.

Welcome in and put another log on the fire.

Hope you enjoy it here, we're pretty friendly this side of the pond.

Howdy Smyrna,

I'm just a wee bit North of you, I went to art school in Atlanta, married a girl from Rome,GA and then moved to North Carolina.

PM your web site to me, I'd like to check it out since we are so close.

Hope you will post some of your vids.

Atlanta is boring for outdoorsy people, so I think you made the right choice. :)

Here are most of my videos:

I haven't made one in a while, but I have several ideas and a sweet camcorder, so I will probably start churning them out again soon. I made a fire piston out of a MagLite that people were way more interested in than I thought they would be, so I have some ideas on refinements of that idea.
