look for Pendleton shirts on ebay - mostly from the States.

Also if you want heavier weight: Korean War filed shirt

The Pendleton wool shirt is superb kit - 100% virgin wool, made in Oregon, and with a lot of history behind it. Pendleton used to make Indian trade blankets, and their plaid wool shirts were iconic dress for loggers, timber cruisers and guides in the North Woods of America.

The material is thinner than a Swanni but much less coarse weave.

They are very expensive new, but are so hard wearing it is no hardship to buy secondhand. My oldest one is over 40 years old.

Even with the pound being weaker aginst the dollar, the best bet is to search international ebay, and buy from the US or Canada - you should be able to get one for £15 delivered or thereabouts.

Recommended.

re pendelton shirts, if you are in London, Camden market has at least 3 "vintage" clothing stalls that were selling pendleton shirts in the £20-30 range about 2 weeks ago. When I asked the guy in one stall, he said they were usually available.

Yep I paid £15ish incl delivery from he states. Nice shirt if a little small on me.....I would recommend reading the measurements they post!
The difficulty will be getting a shirt that isn't toooooo lumberjack (unless you like that kind of thing)

Also worth checking Cabela's (www.cabelas.com) and their "Bargain Cave" section periodically. I've found a few gems in there before now.

As I posted earlier today on a different thread, it's worth looking out for a second hadn Guernsey, which is a super dense oiled wool fisherman's pully, and can be picked up for a few pounds in good nick, or 60 new.

I agree 100% Doc, the Pendleton shirt is superb. The first one cost me $9.99 plus delivery, came to £8 to my door, the second one cost a little more about £11 delivered. I would happily pay more as they are so good. Don't know how old mine are, but several decades at a guess.

definitely have a look at vintage pendletons, you wont be dissapointed. old military stuff is good too if you can find it cheap. the korean war shirts are very heavy duty, and for lighter weight i found some thin ww2 field shirts that are good for working up a sweat in.

a wee while ago I was being dragged round TK Maxx by the missus, and in the vain hope of staving off terminal boredom I wandered off on my own. Needless to say my attention was focussed on the outdoor section where I managed to find a 100% wool, ralph lauren shirt. It's got a suade patch on the right shoulder, so I guess it's from their shooting clothing range. Tis well warm tho, I think it was about £15 or so.
Ain't seen any since tho :sad6:
