Checking my car kit.

everything is fine but the candles have melted a bit (converting the notepaper into tinder...)

its in a plastic box in a bag...no direct sinlight

any idea how to prevent this from happening???

Try moving the box to the other side of the boot, they may have been over the exhaust and the heat can slowly radiate through the steel even though it's difficult to notice. The other way to heat proof is put them in a thermal container (lunch box?) or line the box with foil maybe?

Stick them in a cool bag or box. Should be insulated enough to protect them. :)

What some of us do is find a cardboard tube such as from a roll of toilet paper or a spool of twine..., even a plastic tube will work if it is thin, easily breakable, or open at both ends (cardboard can be cut off the candle), as close as possible to the diameter of the candle (you may have to experiment with different size candles), wrap the candle in heavy plastic and insert it into the tube and duct tape the ends. Wax usualy only gets soft..., doesn't usually actualy liquifiy so the wicks don't usualy move enough to become a problem. However in a very warm environment you can break some off of the candle leaving a longer wick then tie the wick around a small stick or wire stuck through the tube like a pot support in a hobo stove and store the tube upright all the time.
