Nice little setup.
Looks like a square tarp set up over an inner tent of some kind.

This is something similar done with a 3x3m tarp but that looks bigger to me.

Aye but it still a nice set up....Is effectively a flying diamond set up using a tripod.

Offset compared to yours Wayland, is yours scandinavian ?
The last one, rhs, is more of hex/oct shape and def. not a sqr or rectangular tarp. The other two look like tarps though.

Nice little setup.
 I really don't fancy kipping in that, it looks wet, drippy and just awful! However...I do like the pole and tarp set up...very clever and nice and practical!

Mine is just a Tatonka 3x3 cotton tarp anchored from three corners with the fourth rigged to the cross frame.

So it's not a scandinavian style then ? As the post from the blogg is ?
They, Vikings, may have used sails as tarps backin the day....
Nick
This is what the Viking used.

They may well have used the sail as the covering.

I thought they would use a 'boom' tent when anchored and then us the sails and oars for tent/shelter making.

Just read the pages http://www.lore-and-saga.co.uk/html/lofotr.html in your website, great stuff. Will be doing new routing (rock multi pitch) and sea kayaking up there one summer hol.
Watched the Beuwolf DVD today, great stuff too. Especially the 'making of' documentary.
