View Full Version : How about a dedicated essex group?

NatG
28-09-2008, 14:45
There seems to be quite a few of us in essex, how about we get a group together, find a woodland where we can get permanent permission and organise a monthly/bimonthly meetup?

anyone else interested, or does anyone else know of a place ?

cheers

Do Essex bushcrafters all dance round their backpacks in the woods? Would that be why you'd like your own group? :D

And if we are from south essex we like to polish our AK47's before we go to bed then go to sleep to the sound of the police helicopter over basildon.

sound slike a deal then, i'll put the word out to some people and make some enquiries.

I was thinking of saying something along the lines of " aq few of us want to get together to do a bit of low impact camping/bushcrafting we will ponly be out for a few nights a month probbably and there wont' be big groups. We're probbably willing to pay a small amount to cover any costs we may incurr to you and would probbably be able to help out wiht little bits and pieces of mainainence."

sound about right to people?

Are brew/cooking fires allowed NatG?

NatG
11-10-2008, 14:39
yes, i believe we will be allowed a campfire, but the guy has to check with the cupervisor before he gives it the final go ahead.

incidentally, he sounded like a really nice chap:)

there might be an oppertunity to paddle an open canoe around benfleet creek to see what wild food there may be, including a bit of sea fishing during the summer mounths.

I know of a few places were to paddle a canoe and may be able to practice bushcraft to, I've got the address of a shop in clacton were I got my open canoe from if you are interested.

Nucleus Watersports
204 Friton Road
Holland on sea
Clacton on sea
Essex
CO15 5SP

They sell sit on top kayaks, sit in kayaks, but I would recommend one of their open canoes which gives you the scope to all your gear used for bushcraft on the coast as well as inland waters like lakes, rivers and canals through out the UK.

right then- a bit more organising, who is going for both firday and saturday nights? i will only be able to do fridays now as it is a good friends brithday party on the saturday night:(

my idea was that everyone should be self catering- bring with you everything you will need for the weekend! the meeting place will be at benfleet railway station at about 5:30 on the friday, there is no parking on the site available after 5.

A communal campfire is allowed so we can do some cooking over an open fire, i intende to bring something to sit and carve around the fire, and a few sharps for people to have a play wiht, but nothing special.

i need to confir, the exact area where we are sleeping with the ranger but i get the impression that it's not hammock friendly at all, so it will probbably be tents and bivvis for all.

i've got all of this sorted with the park- as far as i'm aware, just turn up, check in with the staff and go and camp, unfortunately it no longer looks like i'll be able to make it, so i don't really feel comfortable organising it anymore, coupled with a busy time at work and a recent illness, i just don't think i've got the time to commit to do it properly.

however- this is mostly sorted, someone just needs to work out a meeting place and ring up the park to remind the rangers.

sorry, but i just haven't got the time, i might pop in for a chat on the friday, but i'll be getting the bus home.
