I use a stone ,then strop with 1200 wet and dry ,then strop with a starkie.
Shaving sharp in no time.
Take your time and use the same number of strokes for each side to keep it even.

Tell her how much you "saved" by buying the WS instead of the Alan Wood.

You could always go for the Ostrich approach :o):

Err, just don't!

RB, if you were to strop on 1200 grit, wouldn't you make it slightly convex?

Lou, IMO invest in some waterstones, and do it on them, that way you can be sure you'll have a completely flat grind. then just strop on the Starkie on a flat surface so to retain its flat edge.

If you don't know about the starkie (http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=19854&recno=9&cid=XPVEECE79MNWL8XO6DE6L5SG4C SOMY5E) its a piece of leather and a block of magic paste. It really is magic!

You rub it onto the leather, strop and you'll have a high polish razor edge in no time!

Cheers.

What you need is a Land Rover.

When something new arrives, put it in the Lanny.

Bring it in later and if asked, say it was lying in the Land Rover.... You're not lying. Well, not exactly...

...In a forest up near Mynedd Du, and it belonged to me.

Am I the only one whi is horrified that it was sent out blunt in the first place. For almost a £100 the least they can do is sharpen it.

He never said it was blunt, but if it was then yes I am.

its easier to retain a rezor edge than it is to put one on there to start with! you need to at least let them know, even if you dont send it back!

Yes ,But I use 1200 on a piece of plywood ,no soft backing and it keeps a completely flat grind.
I said strop because the action is pulling it across the wet and dry rather than pushing it on a stone but it is not a proper stropping action.

Mine was sharp when new but not as good as it could be.
I used a stone then 1200 and the the starkie ,and it gets a little strop each evening just to keep it shaving.

Same technique i use with the starkie. To keep my bevel completely flat grind i use it on a hard surface.
