Hi Barney,
Just spoke to the camp warden and she says "Yes please" to the better stuff but no to the other.
One of the reasons they are having a bonfiire on Saturday is to get rid of all the carp they have lying around at this time of year.
Nice gesture mate - another way of us repaying them for use of the site.:You_Rock_

I am playing the game Barney... obviously we can burn whatever is on the woodpile....but they think we have helped them out with firewood!
Is it ok for Friday still?
Simon
I will sort it tomorrow Simon, i'll ask for the lot our stuff will be in separate pallet loads.:)

That saves me from stufing the car full of wood.
Can everyone intending to take part in the hog roast please add their name to the list at my tent ASAP so that I can work out everyones share of the cost. (Don't want to overcharge or leave Bernie out of pocket!). Remember your 2 bags of charcoal for the roast as well!
Can everyone please bring some change for their camp fees (£4 per person per night). You can pay me & I'll hand it over in one go!
Remember your pocket money for raffle tickets.
Remember the "Bring & Buy / Bushy Jumble sale" - bring your old unwanted gear to swap or sell on Sunday.

Well I was coming on to say I would not be able to make it as I have today been informed as of next week I am redundant.:(
However my wife, bless her has said she does not want me moping round the house this weekend and to get my self off chill out and enjoy myself.:D
This is a whole new experience for me as I have never been out of work before.
Note to self: Must dig out more kit to sell on Sunday as funds now required.
So I will see you all there,………Any jobs going?;)
Tough break mate.
Glad to hear you're still coming, let's see if we can drown your sorrows or at least teach them to swim. :beerchug:

Ok last minute thing...
Im scared of getting cold, but Im trying to pack light. Ive no idea how people pull off light weight camping and hiking, even for just these weekend trips I can only manage by bringing stuff thats too heavy. I dont know if to bring a light 1 man single skin tent, or my usual 2 man tent. That are both cheap so its not like one is really any better. I need to pack extra jumpers so Im not cold. Ive just bought a trolley I can stick my bag on so I dont need to carry it on my back. The sleeping bag takes up about 80% of the room in my bag. Ive brought less food, and a smaller lighter cookset. Im bringing a wool mix shawl/poncho that makes me look like a hobbit and two fleeces to put in the sleeping bag, plus an extra camping mat. I *should* be warm enough with these, so long as I keep my warmest clothes on.
Im just bothered about the tent. I know its muddy and pitching isnt flat and my dome tent feels cold, I thought the smaller one might be best, but Id probably have to keep my stuff outside, under a tarp. Hmmm. Dont mind me Im just pondering outloud...
Oh and does rum mix with orange juice? I really shouldnt be inventing drinks...!

Probably I shouldn't be saying this. But here goes, contact Lurch and get him to bring a hammock, underblanket and quilt with him. You won't be cold then.:D
Lindsey, Remember I'll be there and you know how much extra kit I carry in my van.
Let me know if you need anything. It's no problem.

I'll probably have a couple of sets with me anyhoo.
Well, car packed and I can't wait; even if I am in the middle of the uncontrollable nose dripping stage of cold! I have a carrier bag full of stuff to sell/swap and can't wait (as Isaid before!).
Now, off to site tomorrow morning via Lidl (glue vine - or however it's spelt!).

My car is packed also :) ready for an early start hopefully. Need to remmber and pick up charcoal from a garage on the way down. and hopefully a wolly hat, seem to have lost mine :|

Just a warning to everyone regarding the state of the local "A" roads. There are road works all over the place and the signs for the detours are terrible (and im fairly local, but still got lost). If however you are coming off the motorway (junction 13), then you will be fine. If you must use the normal roads, REMEMBER YOUR A-to-Z.
See you all tomorrow.

I didnt start packing until 21:00, finish at 23:30.
Up again at 6:00 and loaded the car while scraping off ice with the other hand.
I'm now sat in the office looking across the carpark at my pack peeking up at me in the car.
Roll on 3.30
Try Garden Centres for the charcoal, that's where i ended up finding mine.
There is a garden centre just next to the site, but i don't know if they have any in.

Don't worry, I live only 15-20 mins away, so if you need anything, I can always fetch for you, or you could decamp to mine overnight. I won't be stopping overnight because I have to work Saturday morning, and I have another 'engagement' on Saturday night, so I'm just going to be a day visitor.

See y'all later dudes

Well, I left the site near midnight last night (I have to work this morning) and everyone was having a whale of a time. The fire was blazing, the bottles were doing the circuits, Wayland was telling shaggy dog stories, Mad_Dave was the resident comedian and our dearly departed pig was waiting by the fire. I did hear someone suggest that the cooking would begin at 6am. I was safely snuggled up in my duvet at that time, but I'll be there later this afternoon. I hope I'm still there for the carving :)
Oh yes, and the smoke was mostly vertical (or verical).

The pig was great and thanks to Bernie and Wayland for the effort put into cooking the pig all day. And cheers for lending me a hammock to, Bernie. Ill be buying myself one ASAP!
Well
Just got back from Middlewood..Very little mud, loads of great folks and a great time was had by myself, Boz and Phil, many thanks everyone. Really enjoyed having a paddle on the lake in Bernie's canoe and the porker was great (so was the pheasant for breakfast). I also won the top prize in the raffle, the handmade, beautifully engraved knife graciously donated by Bernie:D It was great to put some faces to names and I have a few good pics to put up later, but first I gotta have a nice long soak in the bath and unpack...

A big thank you to Simon for organising this meet. No mud this time, great. Put a few more faces to names. But we should all have a name baddge on. It would save saying "Hello, who are you". Well got to go now F1 calling.
As Ian said really, thanks to Simon for organising and thanks to Bernie and Wayland for the bushcraft tv entertainment all day Saturday. I didn`t partake in the hog but it sure smelled good.
Good to put some more names to faces and have the chance to meet some fellow `shrafters. I even managed to get a sneaky peak at Waylands` latest hobbo offering this morning which got me thinking again.
All my kit smells slighty porky which makes a nice change to woodsmoke I suppose.

Had a great time folks again. nice to see people I knew and didn't know.
quite an interesting time this year with the larp'ers in the next field, and I thought cubs and scouts got over excited:lmao:
not wanting to sound sad now but 30 seconds googling found our neighbours.
http://www.serenity-lrp.co.uk/index.aspx
Each to their own I say but it was a tad odd IMOHO and my Adam had a bemused look on his face when they burst into our camp area this morning he commented "daddy, why do those grown-ups still have halloween clothes on?"
I guess they were chatting about us in a similar manner "why do those people have axes and real knives and dead animals on the fire?" "I just don't get it!!!!!":D
I thought the larpers added a nice bit of something to the weeked.
All looked a bit odd but it takes all sorts eh!

Hammocks dont agree with you? I had my first night in a hammock, and it was the bests nights sleep I had in years! I think a belly full of rum and pork helped but that was lovely. Infact that has ended my one and only camping woe - I sleep terribly in tents no matter what airbed, mat and sleeping bag arrangement! And they are heavy. Im going to get me hammock for the next meet methinks!

just like to say thanks to every one for a great weekend, thanks simon for sorting it out, was nice meeting up with old faces and some new ones. some great photos thanks. carl
Think i've just figure out why i can't get a good nights sleep in a hammock.
I woke up about ten times on Friday night and two dozen times on Saturday night.:(
The problem is if i sleep on my back i snore until i get a dig in the ribs or until i wake myself up, think the latter was the case at the meet.
Can't exactly sleep on my side in a hammock so i will just have to resign myself to ground dwelling if i want a good nights sleep.
(Just glad i wasn't pitched too close to anyone else and woke them up:) )

If you stretch your hammock realy tight it IS possible to sleep on your side. I sleep on my side in my hammock mate.
Stu
My hammock was pretty taught, and i did try turning on my side at one point but it was all a bit too wobbly for me.
Are you sure you didn't hear me snoring? You were closest to me.
Thanks to you all, was great meeting all of you for the 1st time and am now convinced I am not the only crazy person who wants to be outside more than in during wintry weather
Chris it was such a shame never got to chat properly, and you missed the mulled cider... sorry.
big thank you's to everyone for making us so welcome

Honestly Tony, I didnt hear a thing except for the forest creatures walking around underneath my hammock. I was up 7 TIMES on the Friday night because of my weak bladder, but even then I didnt hear you mate. You just need to get more confidence with the hammock. Try stringing it up in the garden or some woodland to have a little afternoon nap.

Dont give up tony.
I manage to sleep on my side in my DD with no problem. I have used the ground for years before I got my hammock and thought I wouldn't settle in a hammock but I did after a few outings.
I must add though I did have a nasty experience at the windermere meet after a few sherberts with the whole woods spinning around as I flailed for stability.
on the whole though a great way to kip.
Practice with your tensioning though as I found that having it too tight meant the hammock really closed up whilst in it restricting movement whilst having a gentle curve gives more room and better stability imo.

Thermal printing is, basically, taking an image, transfering it onto a computer and then printing the image onto leather. The process is digital so even photographs images can be used. It's probable that there would be minimum order quantities though (Think multiple of tens rather than hundreds or thousands) I can dig deeper into the technology (The process is weather resistant - Although I don't know how much so) and look at costs if you like - off the top of my head I believe the leather patches we've had done for a couple of skills weekends have cost £1.50 each - or would have if we hadn't swapped free advertising for the badges :lmao: .

that might be a really good idea, Ill look into this further though i might see about using a different image to this one , its certainly novel and cheap to.

That is well out of order. He must have raised HUNDREDS at the last meet for THIS website.
And now the discontent amongst members starts to become apparent. People were telling me the other day to take a step back and consider what I was writing. What do they think now that the membership is leaving in droves and one organiser of Meets has also left? Seems I'm not alone. Of course, I'm still wrong though. When this site gets sorted out, I may come back, but until that day i bid you all farewell. Of course, those that want to come over to http://www.bushcraftliving.com/forums/index.php which is a place for those that do but without the ego, then I'll see you there.
Along with the other half of the membership that has suddenly dissapeared.
