View Full Version : Calling all bushcrafters in Surrey

I will be moving to Godalming in Surrey in September and I would like to hook up with any bushcrafters in the area.
I know there are a couple of good bushcraft schools in that area, but I also want to meet up with like-minded bushcrafting folk. Wildlife watching, foraging or just bivying round a camp-fire, I aint fussy. :D
I apologize in advance if I'm a bit slow getting back to anyone. Things are a bit hectic at the moment and I don't spend anywhere near as much time on BushcraftUK as I would like. :(

Hi Ben,
I am based in Ashtead, Surrey and would be happy to meet up. I am fairly new to this forum and to bushcraft in general but very keen and learning all the time.

Hiya,
Nice to hear from you. I was beginning to wonder if I would be the only bushcrafter in Surrey.:o
I will be moving to Godalming around the middle of September so I will be around for meet ups around then. In the meantime feel free to e-mail or PM me.
I take it you haven't been bushcrafting long?

Hi, I live in Shalford which is only a mile or two from Godalming. I would be more than happy to meet up. I run a Scout Troop which gives me lots of oppotunity to get out and about in the local hills and woods
Please PM me when you are on your feet in Godalming.

Hi Ben - and all those who have already replied - sorry not to have responded much earlier: too busy by half!!! Anyway, how is the Surrey massive going - have we had any get togethers as yet?? I'm a part-time-do-a-bit-of-everything-sort and part of that is running a flock of sheep. Apart from meat, wool and leather I've got access to acres of pasture and some woodland for bushcraft practise. I'm happy to share the lot! I'm in a small village outside Haslemere which is on the surry/sussex/hants border.
Would be good to be in touch!
Hello, I'm close enough that you can count me in for any gatherings :-)

Dear All,
Thank you for the flurry of interest.
I must confess that I had completely forgotten about this message and I had come here looking for info on Dorkingbushcraft.
It seems like some kind of meet-up is way overdue. I am car-less so my transport options are a little limited but I would be up for anything in Surrey even if only a day in the woods.
Ben
im in odiham, near basingstoke/farnham :) always willing to meet new people and learn new things.

Well done for sorting this out DB. DHD Jnr. & I will be off for a long weekend's bushcrafting the weekend before, & I don't think I'm likely to get a pass out two weekends in a row.
I'll keep my eye on this thread for any future meets, but hope you all have a good one this time!
Cheers

Aaaw Shucks! I'll need to be dropping my son off on a cricket course and then picking up again - but it is in Cranleigh which is just down the road. Would you mind if I was able to just drop in and say Hi and then go mid afternoon?? Be great to meet up, but won't be offended if you'd prefer to keep it to those "in residence"!
JT
Hi there - I'd like to join up with you guys too if possible. Thanks for organising and I'll keep an eye on your thread goodjob
Pencil me and plus 1 in please.
Nice job on getting this sorted.

Hi All,
Sounds like things are looking promising!! As I said in an earlier post, I can only dip in and then go early to collect my son from Cranleigh, but it will be great to get together. Frankly it will be worth it just to take a packed lunch and some billies for a cuppa and a good chat!! However, when I've done small scale things like this before, we've all had a little topic which we bring to the occasion just to add a little agenda to the day. I'd be happy to bring a supply of King Alfred cakes, say a few things about them and then we can all blow up an ember!!! Anyone who can demo firelighting, knots, cooking, knifework whatever for 5 minutes really adds to the day!!! Ooh, by the way, I have purchased a load of ex-climbing rope which is wonderful for bush/camp/knot fun etc. I'm not out to make a profit and will sell hanks of 11m for a fiver - or even swap for whatever! I'll take some along on the day - but let me know if ur interested! ("Dorking" you get a freeby for hosting us!). I can get there by 10am if that suits? Look forward to hearing from you.

Are there any logistical details we should be clear on? Ones that come to my mind are:
How far are we walking/carrying kit?
Is there water on site?
Are there any costs to account for?
Are dogs allowed?
Should we all make a food contribution a la Woodlark's suggestion?
Greatly looking forward to it all, and putting some faces to names!
Richard
sorry everyone i ment the 27 - 28 of feb :sad6:
Alas, I have a course running that weekend (busy spring), otherwise i would have mooched along.
Have a good time in the woods. Maybe next time.

I will be there for the Saturday (27th) but must go home in the evening.
I would love to come but I'm off for a long weekend's bushcrafting the weekend before and I don’t think SWMBO would like me to get away for two weekends in a row.

Hi All, Well it's been frankly crap weather for a fortnight here and as its gone a bit quiet on the "Surrey" front, I was just wondering if we are still up for a meet this weekend?? It would be good to establish a final number and have a think about what we'll do if it pees down all the time!! I can only do the daytime of saturday myself, but I'm still game if others are. By the same token, no hard feelings if we would like to postpone. I guess its up to you really Dorking, let us know how you're feeling!
Best wishes, JT

first of all i really dont want to be seen as the host because its not up to me, i cant have a meet just on my own. i think it might be wise to postpone the meet as it would be more oganised (dont worry im not a control freak) maybe march the 20-21 or 27-28?

Hi All, Is it worth waiting a day to see how many would still come if it's raining? As for the "hosting" issue, I wasn't assuming you you'd be running the gaff - sorry if you thought that - I was hoping that we'd all pitch in with something, but there hasn't been much feedback!!!! The only responsibility for a host at these things is usually to ensure that we have permission to do our stuff!!! Anyway, I'll check in again over the next 24 hours and see how things pan out. The weather forecast makes Saturday actually look better than Friday or Sunday so it might be fun just to meet for "extended lunch"!!!
