View Full Version : DD Tarp 1 - Ridgeline above or below?

I've been experimenting with setups for my new DD Tarp 1 from the group buy. The tarp itself is fine, but I'm disappointed by the lack of attachment points, especially compared to my basha.

Because my basha had a ridge loops, I always rigged it with the ridgeline above the tarp. Although I can get the DD tarp tight enough (thanks to prussiks), I'm not sure whether I should put the ridgeline above or below the tarp. I'm worried about wear and tear on the material.

Do you need a ridgeline? Could you not just tie out the tarp from the ends?

DD Tarps are pretty hard wearing, I've set mine up both ways TBH and never had a problem. Mostly I sling the tarp below and use prussiks. I have found that the black split webbing can come off in high wind or under a lot of tension, so if this is what yours has I'd be reluctant to tie out in the way scanker suggests.

I could, but...

It does have the split webbing. I much prefer proper loops (and eyelets). I'm debating whether to mod the tarp or just replace.

All in all, I much prefer my basha. It's just not quite big enough for hammocking.

Mick Miller (I think anyway - a search should confirm) suggested a good mod - basically just webbing loops on toggles passed through the black split webbing to spread the load a bit better. I've opted for tarp clips instead.

Always had my ridge line above my DD tarp and tightened with prussiks. I once read that the ridge line under the tarp could cause wear but don't think that would be too much of a problem.

I always thought that if the line was above the tarp, rain couldn't run down the line and under the tarp.
