I am negotiating access to a 180 acre (I think) private woodland in Mid-Devon. Anyone interested in a meet-up?

When, where and how long can we stay before they make us leave?

Still in early stages of talks. Might just be for a weekend for him to get used to the idea. He might also be open to the idea of 'renting' part of it for us bushcrafters. But I need to buy him a few more beers and talk it through. he is also curious about bushcraft :D

It is near Crediton.

I'll keep people posted. It might take a few weeks to speak to him again.

Nope. Not open to grockles. It is private, no public rights of way and as such is pretty much untouched (except for the fact it is managed as he runs a firewood business). It is mainly deciduous I believe.

I read on one thread that someone with 'long hair' is not allowed into cornwall. if they let someone with long hair out then I'm interested.

Hi, cant belive it this is right on my doorstep (small world). very intrested sounds great
Hardest thing i've found is a place to 'go and play', no fires allowed on dartmoor (not to many trees on the moor itself)

sounds interesting.

I'm just trying to think who I know near Crediton with a firewood business:Thinkingo I guess it depends on your definition of 'near'. My woods are near crediton, but they ain't 180acres! :lmao:

what sort of plans do you have there? organised camps or pop in when you like style of things?

Well I'd be up for it. A saturday to Sunday morning thing? Nonimouse when you say you have access I take it that includes permission for a small select bunch of us to have a wander / camp ?

Nonimouse

Yes

The nicest wood is the Bampton site, it's small (40acres or so) but nicely varied

I use it for all sorts of things including a bit of driver training and winch training so I pass on a bit of cash to the lady that owns it when I use it for more than just myself

The one by Blackberry Camp is a bit damp and has a bit of a midge problem at certain time sof the year - again I slip the landowner a couple of quid for it's use

Then there is a site I use occasionally up above Wellington, it's a shooting estate so certain weekends are out, it's also used for 4x4 Chalenges so some areas area tadge cut up

Would be best to limit the numbers first time around and get an idea of what people want to do...

I would be up for this one too, Devon or Somerset. Keep us posted.

I guess we need to come up with some dates as a starting point. I'll suggest 4th Oct. I don't believe in hanging about for the sake of it !! I guess the Bampton site would be best and 40 acres is ample!

October is looking less than good for me now as I have promised my only spare weekend to my eldest daughter and a couple of her friends - roughcamping in the woods! Believe me you do not want to be spending a weekend in a wood with three 'almost ten year old' girls!

November is looking okay at the moment apart from around the 18/19th

Blackberry camp is between Honiton and Branscombe

The Wellington site is on the edge of the Blackdowns looking west

I k now the areas, but a grid ref nearer the time would be great.
The big question is still when?

In the interest of fairness and if its ok with Nonimouse we should pick the weekend that suits the majority so how about these ( excludes 15/16 which I think is the weekend Nonimouse cant do)

8 Shocks
22 Shocks

I can make the 8th - I'm cod fishing on the 9th but not too early...

All other dates are possible for me, depending on weather (calm dryish days will see me on the water fishing given half a chance!)

Assuming you'll let me join the group, of course...
