would have thought that size would be a tad to big for a 15 yr old,

Surely it depends on what your doing? I managed comfortably with a 35l sack to iceland for 15 days.

Are you unsupplied during the week? If without food, it is easy, if with all food carried, it is easy.

I would have thought that with clever packing and using tips and tricks from bikers (eg take your socks off at the end of the day and seal them in a plastic bag for 24 hours and apparently they won't smell when you get them out) and other tips (eg roll your clothes up, don't fold them - when you get them out they won't be creased) you could probably get away with a 40 litre bag. If you've a 60 litre bag then there should be no worries. :)

thats about right as its the standard size you would have for a d of e expedition and if you have a female fit one then it'll last you years.

make sure you suss out your packing, my missus filled a 65l to go stateside and I halved it by packing it better so she could get more in like her sleeping bag :)

its hidiously expensive up there so if you can and you have room then take what you can with you.
