HELP!!....... does anybody know approximately how many litres my nanok -10 occupies in a rucksack?? if so what is a suitable pack to carry this and enough kit for short trips in the uk? i am thinking of the karrimor sabre 60-100 possibly?

It is a hefty sleeping bag when stuffed as most of you will know so would appreciate some advice!:D

Many Thanks.

Dan :)

The specs say it takes up 17 litres, but I always seem to find it tends to take up about half of my 45 litre rucksack. If you have a sabre, you could always strap it on the bottom for more space - sadly my rucksack doesn't have that capability :p

Just measure the size. 1dm3 is 1 litre. ;-)

Unfortunately, the UK has the ability to have four seasons weather in one day therefore unless you are either going to carry a good tent/shelter and a good roll mat/self inflating mat, or you are extremely resilient to inclement weather, then having to lump around a sizable sleeping bag is virtually unavoidable.
Although it seems that your bag is taking up a lot of room, its worth having a good nights sleep over a cold and restless night.

as for carrying your gear, a 75litre pack should suffice, imho its always best to have more than not enough, small packs are great, as long as you dont have to unpack everything just to get your coat out! most packs have straps to reduce their size when not required nowadays, so get the BIG one, dont put so much stuff in it if your only going for a short trip.

one thing to remember, you will need the same sleeping/shelter arrangement for one night as you would for a week, same water container and cooking equipment, so the difference would be more food and a set of clothes maybe?

all of the above is only my opinion, everyone has their own idea's. Good luck.

Adam.

Very good advice Dingo, a larger pack two thirds or so full is going to be more comfortable than a jam packed smaller pack. I tend to use the main body of the Snugpak Bergan (70litres) most of the time ;)

one large compartment, with a large pocket on the lid, you can also get the rocket packs for the sides. Good bag, lots of straps and variables, well made and robust.imho.

Hi Dan. Top tip.

1.Put the Nanok-10 bag into the stuff sack as usual.

Instead of pulling the straps up toward you, take two straps that are parallel to each other, unloop them from the black plastic clips at the bottom of the stuff sack, so they are both 'free'

Pull the strap from one side across the top of the stuff sack, and pull it down, and loop it through the black plastic clip. [on the opposite side of the stuff sack that it should be in.]
Then do the same with the other strap.

So the two parallel straps now cross over each other, over the top of the bag.

Sit on top of the Stuff sack, feed both straps through the opposite black plastic clips, and pull both black straps evenly up toward you.

Presto!

This reduces the Nanok -10 bag to a VERY small size. See Pic below. Same length as a bahco laplander.

And my stuff sack has never split or ripped, even under the tension. Cool huh?

Just put your sleeping bag in your rucksack, then see how many litres of water it take to fill it up.

Sheesh, some people.
