Ok its probably been done to death...... but got a small army tarp which is too small for the hammock but fine for a bivi type set up. Looking for a tarp and just thought I would see what size and recommendations peeps use. Was thinking 3m x 3m (or 4m?)
Weight not too much of an issue ( but lightish is always good ;)) got to be green or un obtrusive as I want to use it with the camper van too.
Many thanks in advance Dave
Dont mind second hand if any one is up grading ;)

I think 3mx3m is generally a good size and what a lot of people use - not too big, not too small, and is square so you can use a diamond setup if you want etc.
As for recommendations - Tatonka I think is quite good, and you can get it in either polyester or polycotton mix according to your preference. Fairly good price and quite light too I think.
If you have a Decathlon shop near you they have a £20 3x3 green tarp there which even includes poles - I've got one and I think it's very good. No connection etc :p

Hope that helps - I think there was actually a poll around somewhere about this..I'll try and find it.

Edit: Aha here we are (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29610&highlight=tarp) - hopefully that should give you some more ideas.

I'm looking very seriously at the new 3m x 4m tarp that Tatonka have started doing.

The 3m x 3m is just about alright if pitched on the diagonal but this new tarp will give cover on a regular pitch which will give better end cover I reckon.

There's a new one?
I presume you don't mean the Tarp 4 as I believe you already have one of those?

I use two British army tarps that can be press studded together, don't know if these are still available but I find them very flexible. Have never used them with a hammock so not sure what the issued there might be, length I guess.

Oh right, I thought you had a Tarp 4.
BTW the Tatonka Tarp 2s are 3m x 2.85m despite their misleading drawing which suggests 3x3.

I have a 3x2 dd tarp1, its a bit bigger than the HH fly Im using now and a bit smaller than this other tarp I have which is about 6x6 its way to big!!.

I havent used this one in anger yet but the set up in the garden looks big enough..

I think on hindsight should have gone for the 3x3 but hey it was cheap ;)

Anybody used the Hilleberg tarps? They look a bit pricey but they're very low weight. Are they robust?
They got one at 3.5 x 2.9m. The length seems ideal for a hammock to me.

About 80 quid for the XP10. 87g per metre squared.

is it a proper basha tarp or a copy? the basha's are bigger than the issued poncho and I used a hammock under a poncho for years with enough space fo me and my kit.

or is it just that you want to protect your whole site?

For a polycotton? That's a good price, the vendor must not have had the latest price hike come through yet.
