Can anyone tell me what these are?
Both found on mature Oak trees in mature woodland, both about the size of a childs fist, both woody and hard one brown

The white ones look like some form of wasp nest.

Both look like galls to me although I'm no expert on them.

The brown one is seemingly the root gall produced by Biorhiza pallida (a gall wasp in the family Cynipidae) but, as implied, is found on Oak roots so I'm not completely sure. The white one reminds me of an Oak Apple (again produced by a gall wasp) but they are found on the buds rather than on the trunk as your one seems to be.

Hope I've at least pointed you in the right direction.

Cheers.

The top one's a bit odd looking, but the bottom one looks like it may just be a small burr that the bark has come off. I made a walking stick handle out of a similar lump that was on a sycamore.
