Other tinder fungi

So there's cramp balls which stink and burn a bit to quick to keep an ember going and horse hoof fungus which doesn't grow round here. Any other fungi that I could use to make some sort of amadou? I've tried birch polypore but whilst it's good for polishing things it don't burn too well.

Incidentaly how come you never see Ray Mears staggering backwards with his eyes streaming from the smoke when he tries to light a fire?

Painters or Artists palette is also a good tinder fungus.

You have to be lucky to find Horses-hoof. I've been lookign for ages and found three yesterday...just need to get my collecting pouch...

he wears contact lenses :wink:

I wear contact lenses and find that smoke does not seem to much of a problem
