Just joined after lurking for a spell.

Wrong side of 50 now, but have camped, backpacked ,hillwalked etc from before my 1st birthday. Been out of it for a spell, as work and health got in the way a bit, but we (wife and I) are looking at getting back into camping.

Not entirely sure if I really qualify for the bushcaft part, but I like the feel of this forum, and I have, for example spent entire camping holidays cooking on an open fire, but I don't think you are going to get me sleeping out under a tarp, I'm thinking more a lafuma Recliner :-)

Now a professional ecologist (both consultant and lecturer), but once a professional photographer ( for 14 years).

Still very little time for things, but I am particularly keen to develop some craft skills.

hello and welcome, Graham. Sleeping under a tarp is the same as sleeping in a tent, without the condensation.

Hello and welcome!
I think of it as the right side of 50 - when "life experience" starts paying off as we look pityingly at the youngsters still learning about life, rushing around getting it wrong, while we sit back and do it the easy way!:D
Enjoy!

Unfortunately, I am still rushing around getting things wrong!!

However, on your second point, I can certainly remember the days when I didn't want the "easy way" as I felt that was some how cheating. Now a days, I have a more balanced approach.
