So far we have over 25 people who have said to be coming. This may grow a bit, but I think that in the end we'll end up with about 20 people during the meeting due to exams, work and social life of everybody. But feel free to invite more people and letting us know. I am keeping a list with mail adresses and phone numbers to send an information letter around at the beginning of june. Almost everybody who is going to come have said to be coming the whole weekend.

HI,
Always interested. about dates.. I'm pretty filled up. let me know what it will be and I'll see.
Cheers
How far from amsterdam airport is the meet??
i may come if ive managed to get a job by then.Ive been to holland about 8 times i think Hollands transport system is great the trains actually run on time!
the trains actually run on time!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Then you were very lucky my friend :D Or you were on a good line. I'm travelling by train (Rotterdam - The Hague v.v.) about 3 times a week on average - 2 out of 5 the train is late ... 1 out of 40 the train is too early ... Bit of a shock when you realise the train already left when you walk on to the platform with in thought you still have 3 minutes left ...
A meet up sounds greet. Only for the weekend of 26 & 27 of April I have plans. I wonder if 3 days /2 nights is an option?

Hey guys,
Back from a short vacation, I'm still interested in organizing this meet partly. I was thinking about a spot I know in Hilversum, its nice and central. (And rather close to amsterdam for those who come frome other countries).
I'll check soon to find out what weekend is actually possible. Any chances of other people joining in from England?

Hey brother,
I'll be there, dad probably as well, and Mathieu (think I mentioned him to you) definetely wants to come.
PS: Dad found some good Billycans in some store (Dille & Kamille), he's taking one with him for me to see if it's any good.

Hi everyone, please check the OP for the date and location as its now been fixed.
If you're coming than please let us know here (or in a pm). For our oversees frieds, let me know if you're planning on coming and we'll arrange transport for you (either directly from the airport or from the Hilversum main train station.
Special question to Thijs, bro could you post a few pictures of the location? (I can't seem to find the folder with those pictures).
You can count me in for some fishing info, either by rod or by setting a line. It would be "dry info"- if I remember correctly there's no fishing waters directly around that area.

Sounds pretty good. Actually a home game for me since I live there.
If I'm in the country that date I'll definitely be there. Might make it a case of being there actually.
I walk past that place every day with the dog, it's a good site.

A few people of the Dutch YMCA Outdoor are probably coming as well to see what's going on. So I think that we'll be having at least around 20 people during this weekend so far. As I've stated before, there's plenty of room to string your hammock or build your bivouac.
Jurjen, i'm not 100% sure yet, but a very high chanche i will be there.

Hey everyone,
We're still a long way from the weekend but the seats are filling up. I've estimated that we can have a maximum of about 30 people. Right now the number is 15 and rising.
I've made a spreadsheath at home where I'm keeping track of everybody who's coming and it would be great to know a little bit more about you all then your screen name and your first name. So please send me a PM with the following info:
Contact info:
First name, family name
email adress
mobile phone number
Are you coming:
A: The whole weekend (friday, saturday, sunday).
B: Saturday and sunday.
C: I'll drop in when I have time, don't know if I'm going to stay overnight.
Extra info:
I can give a workshop, its ...
I am planning to bring ... to the Dutch dinner party.
I would like to bring a friend, please reserve two spots for me.
Thanks for your effort guys and girls.
Greetings,
Jurjen
I hope I'm not too late for signing up.
PM send with the info.
Goedenavond allemaal,
Still not clear if I can make it that weekend so another question mark for your excel sheet Jurjen...
If I am coming I´ll be bringing along some homemade firepistons (including the knowledge to make one yourself), some bamboo for firesawing, some rattan for the fire thong (I have never succeeded with it but is fun to try) and a special piece of bamboo that produces sparks with flint. I can do a workshop as well on those four SouthEast Asian firestarting methods. I´ll probably also have some ´chaga´ (Inonotus obliquus) and cramp ball fungus (Daldinia concentrica) with me to play with.
Cheers,
Tom
PS Although I´m not sure if I´ll be there, I´m already claiming 2 trees for my hammock:D

I'd love to go, but I'll have to check with work. Also, i'm kind of new with absolute bushcraft. I went on a lot of camping trips, but almost no bushcraft trips. I can get a fire going with a firesteel, can make feathersticks, keep a fire going, set up a tent,... Classic camping stuff. Is this Belgian guy still alowed? :D
Is anyone coming from the UK by car? Odd question that's true but I have a loom I want to donate to friends in the UK. They are trying to hire a van and take the ferry etc. Would cost them a bundle. It'd be easier of someone would take the thing into the UK already where it could be picked up by them
So shameless begging here :D
There's cake or a homecooked meal involved for anyone who could assist.
reken mij d'r ook maar bij hoor:P
I would like to learn some new stuff and meet other dutch bushcrafters.
Jurjen,
I've tried to contact you about the meeting (trough PM), but have not heard from you.
I might come Saturday (in the early morning untill 15:00/16:00) Maybe I'll take a few family members, but that's not sure yet.
Thanks,

So... what's the score sofar Jurjen?
sigurd invited me to jin join in, I try to be there aswell. think about a workshop I can throw in. since 5 years i'm one of the assistent instructors for extrasurvival. but when i;m at the meating I will be there not as such. if the campground is ok I can do something with bow shooting \/hunting,atlatl, blowgun, setting traps. or more modern ways to kill a rabbit.

Hi guys,
Christy, the score so far seems to be around 25 people in total, maybe a few more who will just walk in and visit. You never know, numbers might drop suddenly as well.
Puffie: welcome mate, always nice to see friends of Sigurd coming. You're not the only outdoor / bushcraft instructor who's there in his own time, so are quit a few others. For all of us is that this is a private weekend where we can enjoy our hobbies. (Though I'm sure there will be talks of how to do these things with groups :-)
Atlatl seems like a great thing to learn, and yes there is space for shooting, I can bring the neccecary safety equipment like nets and stuf if thats required. I'm also qualified to set up a shooting range under VeBON TÜV safety standards.
To everybody else, I'm still missing quit a few contact data's, wich will be used to contact you all when the weekend is coming closer. So if you have not yet sent it in the questions are below here.

We would like to sleep during this weekend in hammocks. Is there a possibility to borrow 2 hammocks?
How is it with the FIRE?!
We would like to offer "initipi" indian sauna workshop.
Hungarian fire eags.

I'll take you up on the offer of that sauna, I've been looking at all the workshops that are being offered so far and we're going to actually have a programme... And I must admit, im getting very curious about the other things, can you tell a little bit about it?

Can you update the list with names who is doing a workshop? I am interested who is doing what.

I have updated the original post with the preliminary program.
Take a look at the first post to find out what's going on where and let us know what you'll be interested in doing. All workshops noted there have workshop givers, I'll enter in those names at a later date.
Cheers,

PS: Dad found some good Billycans in some store (Dille & Kamille), he's taking one with him for me to see if it's any good.
Those Dille & Kamille cans are great. The old HEMA were even better but they stopped selling them.
I drilled two holes in the can plus one in the lid and used wire for hanging them. They work great although be aware of the heat because they will deform quickly if overexposed.

Guys,
sorry to miss out on the party.... :-(
So I won't be bringing a spare hammock either.... :-(
I will be with a Vildmark & Weiss course with Nordic bushcraft / Bearclaw in Sweden :D
alas work is keeping me quite busy too so no time to ask questions, do reports etc so far but as you probably imagine I am looking forward to having a ball there!!!
Any of you joining me there in june 2008?
Grtz Johan
ps: will still have to report on the Chinese Army Cooker too!!! It came through and after some testing it will be a pass around (or something) for the list cos i have no need/intention to keep it.

Yep Weiss summer course, have to check price cos it was a combination (Vildmark, which is/should be a bit of a refresher for me). So a trip report etc will follow afterwards.
Main objective is have fun, relax (not equals being inactive <eg> ) and learn...
If any of the UK based people are coming please drop me a pm about possibilities of me buying from you a BCB messtin (the one with the lid which was reviewed on the site and in the mag) and you bringing it (postage RM to Holland sometimes adds up to a major pain...)
Will probably bring along the Chinese Army cooker set for pass around and testing and trying in the UK (again saving a bit on international mail costs...)

Hey everyone,
Nice to see you all so active out here.
Johan, you have fun for all of us who are staying behind ok!
For the rest, this weekend everybody who has shown interest should see some email traffic coming with more information about the weekend.
By the way, David. You're bike should be quit safe there. You'll be sleeping about 200 meters away from it.
Greetings,
Jurjen
In the mail you say that fire's aren't alowed(exept for the main fireplace) are also hobo stoves or mets stoves not alowed? and will the fire be burning the whole day(like warm breakfast;) )
Jurjen Knoester
01-06-2008, 07:21
I will check for those hobo stoves, but I'm afraid that the answer will be no. Since with us lot that would probably mean 30 independant hobo stoves burning in a tinderdry forest... I don't see how they would aprove of it.
But about the main fireplaces, they are rather large (and there are two), and you can make a fire there at any time. They're large enough for multiple fires.
sorry guys, i can't come either. I think i really need that weekend to prepare for mine graduation. Almost getting mine bachelor degree !

Hi all,
still not sure if I can make it.
If I can´t come I will be asking DDokkum (at the other Dutch bushcraftmeeting a week before) if he can take some stuff of mine (bamboo, rattan etc.) to the Hoorneboeg for you all to play with (you can do the workshop without me, I´m pants at most of those fire techniques myself anyway;), I can also provide some background information on the fire saw, fire piston and fire thong by E-mail (word-files) for anyone interested (t.lourensapestaartjesanquin.n l).
Cheers,
Tom
PS
Perry sport are selling their hammock´s (lightweight, nylon, 240x135 cm, small package) for half the price, 5 euros! They are big enough to sleep in for me and hold my 88 kilos well (although the package says it is good till 80 kilos). You will need extra rope for hangin it but I think it is a bargain.

I have a caddy, so I can take 1 person with me if he/she is on the route or closeby. I have pleanty of room for luggage.
Sunday, I will leave earlier (around 11.00-12.00) and drive back to Oss, where i live
Anyone who wants a ride?

Anyone arriving at the Hilversum station at around the same time as Stijn, give a shout now.
Busstrike is over. Service should be resumed for all you late comers.
Now for the bad news, the rabbit is up the duff. She was in a cage with her sister, sister got the axe last week. Only sister was a brother and now our little fluffy should've-been-a-meal, is near delivering time.
Way too young but it happens. Glad I found out before the demo, that can make a grown man faint to realise you've just.....
Alternatives are in planning now but I refuse to "do" anything from the petshop.
Update will follow.
btw In the mail i said that i would bring a chicken(the bird, not girl) for the ddp, but that is only possible if there's some kind of fridge/refridgurator, if there isn't I can bring stokbrood or so...
Hi all,
I can now confirm I´ll be coming on saturday for my firestarting workshop.
Sadly I can´t stay the whole weekend but I´ll bring some noodles and dried chicken-of-the-woods for dinner.
See you saturday,
Tom

Glad you found out in time. I'll be bringing a rabbit, but mine's bought at a butcher.
So the arthritis fairy has paid us a visit again. With this humid weather even typing is hard, let alone walk or trying to hold something. Sorry to have missed this but am looking forward to reports or pics.

Hello everyone,
I would like to thank everybody for the great weekend we enjoyed together.
Bushcraftuk.com has gained a few more Dutch friends who will be subscribing in the coming days, to exchange photo's and stories about their experience.
Parts of the weekend have been in English, since we did have one not-native person in the group. And I think we should aspire to make that happen more. I hereby proclaim an open invitation to everybody who's active on these forums for all the dutch weekends to come!
Special thanks to all the workshop givers and the people who have helped with building up the site and cleaning up afterwards. Great work everyone, this weekend would not have been possible without you!!!
With sincere greetings,

Really enjoyed the meeting, learned lots of stuff to try during my oncoming Sweden trip. Thank you Jurjen for organising the meet, and all workshop people for doing what they did.
Nice photos Cootje001!
Hi all,
I was only there on saturday but had a very pleasant time, despite the lack of coals with the bamboo fire saw workshop. I especially liked the 12-course dinner (and I hope everyone survived my chicken-of-the-woods).
Hat's off for the organizers, roll on the next weekend!
The only thing that went wrong was the football match!:sadwavey: (despite Piet's generous catering of beer & delicious cherries)

And just keep on adding those pictures.

Hey everyone,
There will certainly be another event, I estimate between 3 and six months and probably on the same location. The hoorneboeg was a great place in my eyes and I think we could do a lot more there.
For the next event I am looking for inspiration on new workshops. Please respond with any idea's you might have on thise.
cheers,
Jurjen

For the next event I am looking for inspiration on new workshops.
I missed the leatherwork workshop, so this definitely has to be repeated (I'd like to make a sheath for my axe ;)).
Maybe different way's to purify water? Primitive fishing techniques?
Jan (Penvisser) and me talked shortly about the possiblities of a fishing workshop. It's a good idea and we could maybe give a workshop together, but we'll have to talk about it more.
Jur, the "official" Bushcraftweekend from Bushcraftweekend.nl will be held on November 1-2. Maybe it's a good idea to plan your weekend less close to that one than now?
Grtz,
Thijs

Hi everyone,
There are some "lost and found" items that where left over from the weekend!
1. Crusader cup (the military metal cup that can hold a waterbottle.)
2. Black 5 liter Ortlieb waterpouch (The kind that you can hang in a tree)
If you are the owner, please let me know and we can arrange for their return.
Greetings,
Jurjen
Hi all,
I also had a great time at the weekend. I really liked the attention there was for food (eating from a hangi, salmon above the fire, cooking on dakota fire, etc.). For me that's something I'd like to see the next time (and the times after that).
If it's possible, another plant walk would be great. There is still a lot to be told about plants and trees (edible, medicinal, other practical uses). And I'd love to do the leather workshop.
Some other ideas for workshops would be 'trying to kill the bunny - part 2', psychology of survival, collection and distribution of useful addresses (not really a workshop but useful anyway), navigation without a compass, animal (and human) tracking. There should be something useful in there.
I have also uploaded some pics: http://lunar.hyves.nl/album/28525642/Bushcraft_Hilversum_2008/bkgv/
Cheers!

Hi Stanley,
At present, there are 2 meets organized:
1. Dutch Bushcraft Weekend, organized 2 times per year by Anneke treep, Rob Hofman and Marc Smeehuijzen. Posted here: Bushcraftweekend (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33683) under the nick of "black_kissa".
This one has a history of a few years already. The original website is www.bushcraftweekend.nl. The registering has started a few days ago and within 10 minutes all 70 places were booked. If you register now you'll be on a waiting list. Location: Prehistoric HAPS Village near Apeldoorn.
2. Dutch Buscraft Meeting, organized by my brother Jurjen. We had one this summer, and due to succes we'll have one on January 16-18th. This will be in Hilversum which is fairly close to Amsterdam. BTW: I think there will be always someone kind enough to pick you up and give you a ride.
Posted here: Bushcraft Meeting (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32500)
Both weekends offer different workshops and a great get-together for the Duthc BC community.......who otherwise have to gather on this forum since it's not yet such a big scene as in the UK. Simply put: we don't have a Ray. :D
Furthermore, I don't think there a lot of organized things going on, though we just had a small weekend's outing with perfect strangers, good fun!
Ps: Courses in Holland: www.extrasurvival.nl and www.tornakbushcraft.nl
Hope this helps!

Shame your so far up north, taking the ferry from ramsgate to oostende is about 40 quid ;) just you'll get to see a lot of country side on the way up ;)
I think the digging the ditches around tents is a dutch thing!!
I was a on a campsite in the ardeche half way up a mountain! there was a dutch family there. In the campsite where small hills and his tent was on the top of the biggest.
He took a shovel and dug a huge trench all the way around his tent work of art it was there was a soak away and everything (brand new big familly tent with all the trimmings) it took him hours of banging clanging and scrapping to do this, lots of shouting and balling to!!.
And of course I looked on quite amused in my folding camp chair with a beer in hand..
As the temp sored to a whopping 30 Degrees C..
I really didn't have the heart to tell him he was probabaly wasting his time as it happend it rained once in two weeks.. ;)
Incedently he left the trench he dug when he packed and left I got the photos to just for the fond memory ;)

haha :P Please don't say it's a Dutch thing. We also say things like that about the Germans: "They always dig holes at 'our' beaches". But when asking Germans, they always really don't know what we're talking about :D
But there's maybe truth in it: as I see it, Dutch people don't know how to camp. They pack all their belongings and drive to France/Spain(the shorter the breaks the better, 'traveling is no adventure') with their caravans (Netherland is famous about that). Then they go to a camping with a very luxury swimming pool and fenced off personal campsites. Then they like doing nothing but getting as much tan as they could. Thát's a Dutch thing about camping.
Maybe it's because it's illegal to camp in the wild(and that's a good thing, we don't have much 'wild') and the weather is not always so dry/warm.
This summer I was on my way from Slovenia to the Netherlands and I cooled some beers in a stream. A Dutch lady wondered what I was doing and concluded I was 'survivaling' because I didn't had a refrigerator with me. If you go camping in a tent, even with your car, you are for Dutch standards primitive.
Being Dutch, I have to agree on all points mentioned by Pantalaimon.
And the ditches? Well, we ARE the best in the world in water resisting and land reclaiming! Let's just say it's in our genes, we just can't help it :D

what are the laws concerning bush craft in Holland regarding where you can sling your hummocks lite fires in the woods . i all ready know the laws about wild camping in Holland because two HUUUUUUUUGE! gun toting:eek: dutch police men told me so don't whant to meat up with them again in the woods :p
Lighting fires: pretty much nowhere in the wild. Wild camping: not allowed, sometimes a friendly ranger will turn his head, but NOT when you've lit a fire. Best way is trying to find pieces of woodland in particular ownership, and ask the owner.
Niels founf the campsite that we used on internet, it's a scouts area that can be rented. There are more area's like this, but there's no central point to start.
And yep, our policemen carry arms! But in the woods, chances are it'll be a ranger tapping your shoulder.

lol i feel sory already for the one that taps you lmao
If anyone needs some more info on scout areas/campsites send me a message and I see what I can do..
There are some links somewhere, I'll have a bit if a look around if I can find them. Most of them are privately owned pieces of woodland, sometimes with a fixed campfire place.
Would like to come to this meeting, and already put it in my agenda.
Now I need to have a look around for a warm sleeping bag.
