sounds nice
its a bit of a chav brand. id have to wear a burberry cap ,and ask everyone i walk past if theyve got any skins.
Timberland always seems very expensive - Even in cheaper outlet shops. Are these shoes or boots? The last walking boots I bought, boots not shoes, were less than that and are waterproof, etc. £78 for shoes is a lot of money - for me anyway.

They do still make some excellent outdoor gear particularly mid and base layer shirts and some decent fleeces however having been taken into the hearts of the 90's 'house' fraternity (mainly with their tan boots) they adapted and extended some of their range into street fashion. You have to search around a bit but they do still produce some good kit for what it was originally intended for

my outdoor boots are timberland, and I really like them, the comfiest I think I've had and waterproof. Smell a bit 'horsey' though, well so SWMBO tells me :). They are expensive in the UK but if you get to the US their outlet stores usually have them at less than dollar for pound prices, ie £78 here about $60 there!!
when they're covered in mud no-one sees the label!!
Cheers,
Alan

Eh? Non comprendo.
I've had some of their shoes that I got cheap in outlet stores.
The "waterproof" boots I got from them are comfy but NOT waterproof. I wrote to them and complained but they didn't bother answering. The Gore Tex ones I got started leaking after a few months and the upper came away from the sole after about a year (but they were comfortable). I do have a pair of town shoes and a pair of boots from them still, but I won't be buying from them again.
I saw a Watchdog program about the low quality of their shoes a few years back. A cobbler dismantled a vintage pair of Timberlands and a new pair after people had been complaining about their expensive shoes falling apart. He showed how they've been cutting corners in the construction and that the quality has visibly (to an expert with a knife) declined.
Also their recent shoes and clothing is aimed at the fashion market and is not serious outdoor gear. I had a baseball hat from them, it cost 20 quid and it hardly lasted me a year (I was a brand sucker I guess).
I was looking at one of their outdoor jackets in a charity shop the other day, it was ugly but I thought it might make a good gardening jacket because it was green and had big pockets but I didn't think it was worth the tenner they were asking for it. The watches they do now don't look too hot IMAO either.
And I used to really like Timberland gear.

When items get popular, they can attract the 'Chav' label, just look at Zebra billy cans, over priced but people still seem keen to get in line for them:rolleyes:
Thanks for the replies, i ended up buying a leather belt from them for £21, but not the boots, thye looked great and had all the right lables (vibram, gore-tex ect..) but my gut feeling told me they would not be up to the tasks required of them.
Any suggestions on boots under £100 that are both waterproof, and breathably as well as having great grip??? I've been looking at scarpa's New SL hoping to find a bargin on ebay lol
My understanding is that Timberland is a bit like Karrimor; there's a huge variance in the quality and usefulness (for peeps like us) between the top and bottom-end of the brand offerings. I have a Timberland jacket that I bought on BB and it's excellent, I am virtually living in it at the moment but there is some total cack stuff around as well.

Not sure what use you'll put them to or what styles you prefer, but it's possibly to get a pair of Altbergs made to order for less than £100. Mine are the most comfortable boots I've owned though the model I chose cost me about £150. Go to their website and register for their Special Offers, if you can get to a free fitting day as well you'll never look back.
Edit: I can also vouch for the waterproof models, having trudged my way through ankle-deep bogs in mine for hours.
got some Earthkeepers,
