made my own wreath for the front door, centrepiece for the table and holly and spruce bough swags for the mantelpiece - not personally harvested unfortunately, but plenty of good raw material at the wholesale veg market at 4 o clock every morning!(i love my job)

A lot of the decorations that catch my eye are those made from cones and the like, so I'd be interested in those who do. Or maybe I'm just remembering the decorations from my childhood, some of which were home made like that.

I did have a go at making a wreath at the weekend when I was out clearing scotch pine and birch with the local wildlife trust. SWMBO seemed impressed with it so I'll be doing that again.

Yep - we decided a while ago that everything we enjoy, we enjoy more by collecting, growing, making ourselves.

So heres our wreath

All collected by us and made up by BB. The holly round here is pretty light on berries this year so we wove in some bryony berries (the big red ones).

We make own holly crown for the door every year.

Me and my daughter went out and harvested the holly from the hedgerow at the top of a local hill. It was heavly berried. I got the ivy from the backyard. I simply twist up the ring with ivy first and then weave in the holly. It is very easy.

If the crown is to be worn by anyone I pick the folage from the top of the bush which aren't so spiky, and clip off the thorns.

I have weaved up other decorations in the passed [stars and things] but i haven't had the time this year. I need the get some pine bows by the weekend, the smell mixed with cinnamon is just so christmassy:D

dried Holly burns something lovely for starting the nolly bonfire on the 6th jan.

xylaria - you had a real find getting holly with berries - from what i've heard at the market, berried holly is rarer than chickens lips this year - another result of our messed-up seasons. a pound of holly with berries is going for £5-6 if you can get it, whereas standard holly is 70-80p and sitting round in huge piles

They are just trying to make cash out people that don't realise that stuff grows on trees. The berries fall off easiely anyhow. I hope nobody trashes my hedge to make a quick buck, it is my hedge, i found it.:nana: i am not selling what was given me to freely.
