Hi all,

Am looking into getting a tatonka tarp as they seem to have good reviews. However, could someone tell me whats the difference between the polyester & polycotton ? Is one more waterproof than the other ?

Cheers,

Paul

I guess the polyester may be a little more waterproof, but I've never had a problem with my polycotton one. The main difference is polycotton is quite a bit heavier, more resistant to sparks and flaps less in a breeze.

Polyester is lighter than the Polycotton.
I still bought the polycotton though, as said above quieter & more resistant to sparks. I've also been out in the rain twice with it and no leaks :)

Different materials (obviously... :o )
Both are equally waterproof.
Polyester is lighter but noisier (rustles in the wind) than polycotton (if you give it an opportunity to be).
Polyester dries quicker, but polycotton handles a spark or flying ember from a fire better.
Polycotton can be had in two different colours (green or sand), but polyester only in green.
Taken care of, both will last you a very long time, but I suspect (without really knowing) the polycotton to last the longest.

Horses for courses, really.
If weight has a high priority - go polyester
If you're afraid of burning holes in your tarp - go polycotton
If you're more on the go than stationary - go polyester (dries quicker)
If you prefer silent materials - go polycotton
And so on...

I've got Tatonka tarps in both materials, and I find them both fantastic pieces of kit.
Whatever you choose, it'll be right.
