Here's my new knife being given a handle.
I have to say thanks to John Fenna for the use of his tools and the help he has given me.
Hopefully all going well it should be finished on Tuesday.

The is made of carbon steel and the handle is Honduran Walnut and the photos really don't do it justice!

I would like to point out that my tools are very simple - most bought in pound shops and I am sure Greg could do equally well without my help if he had a shed and his own tools.
In the photos you see my anvil - a lump hammer - and my workbench - an old door on 4x4s. The holes were drilled with a Woolies drill in a Lidls drill stand.......using £shop bits!
Nowt fancy yet, but I dream, oh I dream, of state of the art kit.
Mind you I was a keen photographer, playing silly Bs with negs, filters, copiers etc until didgitls came along and made it easy.
Now I just take snaps......all the fun died for me when technology took over - so maybe if I got flash tools it would kill my desire to be a maker.
Gregs knife is certainly looking good - despite the tools (and my skills/help):) being simple

Nicely done - I'd like to help out on the sheath if you need any - give me a shout.

John you shouldn't be so humble, I would never have done this without your help and enthusiasm! Thankyou..:You_Rock_

Captions should go something like -
TOP
Gregs work (left) next to the one a certain JF is spoiling.
Middle
Butt view
Next
The other side
Raising the grain by wrapping in wet cloths for a couple of hours
Bottom
Soaking in a blend of teak and linseed oil, where they will be left for a day or two.
or
Drowning the evidence....
During the grain raising Greg also learned the black art or quick and dirty wet moulding of a leather sheath... a very attentive student indeed!
I can see Greg being a better cutler than me - he knows more about wild foods than I do but claims I started him off on this as well....

I am very grateful to John for his guidance and very happy with my first attempt.
Now I have another Damascus on its way to be rehandled with.......well I don't actually know that but I'll keep you informed!

Most of the knives I make are stick tangs - a most under-rated tang type!

Thanks for all the kind comments guys!
With reference to the sheaths:
The sheath on the left was bought on Ebay and John wetmoulded it to fit the Damascus knife.
The sheath on the right, I got that off someone on here I think it might even have been you Doug!
