This is just about typical - I lost my internet connection again about 12 hours after I posted that I was back online :cussing:
I've only just got it back to find I'd just missed the next meet by a few hours :(
Oh well...

Are there plans for another this year or are we looking at January now? Personally I'd like to get back to Little Hall as soon as possible as I haven't been out for ages.
I'm up for one just before xmas. Christmas at Little Hall sounds very good to me. :D

Good idea starting the new thread Mike, the other one was getting a bit lengthy.

Shame you missed it switch mind you it did rain a bit

we had to build a rain shelter (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2595&cat=503)

& keep the fire burning

That rain shelter looks suspiciously like the bridge you quite masterfully created last time we were down there Mike :D

I wouldn't have minded a bit of rain, it would've been nice just to get back to Little Hall for a day or two :(

Many thanks Bard and Mike for my first visit to Littlehall!

Bard you are indeed the fire sensei...... as you proved on more than one occasion (as well as the purveyor of quality food enhancements!!).

Mike, you are indeed mad......building that new rain shelter, when I left you there was already a perfectly good one in place and it was pi***ng down!!

It was good to meet you both and many thanks for all the tips and advice.

Hi guys,

As I said a little bit further up this thread, I'm in need of a weekend away, preferably before christmas. I was hoping the weekend of the 22nd but it turns out I'm working.

So, any takers for a late-notice meet this weekend?

I'll check back on this thread this time tomorrow and if there's any interest then I'll get in touch with Libby.

Cheers fellas :)

I'm in two minds about going up there on my own. Things are not good in the House of Switch at the moment and I seriously need to get out into the woods for a night.

Can anyone PM me Libby's number? I'd send her an email but i'm not sure she'd get it in time.

How did the dentist break his jaw? Was it at a proper appointment? Or was he smacked by some bloke in the pub who happened to be a dentist? :lmao:

-Switch-
12-01-2008, 23:28
I've seen that happen before.
I was reading about a guy who needed one of his molars pulled. He went to see his dentist who sat him down, anaesthetised him and went about pulling the tooth. The tooth wouldn't give so the dentist pulled a bit harder until there was a cracking sound and what the guy (who was under anasthetic) described as ''immense pain''.
The tooth wouldn't budge from it's socket and the dentist had managed to snap off an inch-long lump of jaw bone, containing 2 teeth, and pull it out through the gum. :(

22-01-2008, 23:41
There are a lot of trunks of various sizes that need felling
This is a great opportunity to get some serious materials for our proposed shelter(s) project

So come and have some fun & practise some cutting skills - bring your own axes & saws
snedding and preparing poles is also on the menu.

might even be worth missing a booze up in the mess for ;)

plenty trees to go around so if you have never chopped down a tree here is your chance

The season is getting short so I am thinking of Sunday 3rd Feb TBC

Happy Stropping

Mike

I'd be up for the 3rd Mike, I'd quite like a day swinging an axe about :)

Can we make an overnighter of it? It'd be much easier to wake up, have a bit of breakfast then get cracking rather than travel down for the day. I promise I won't over-sleep :o

I don't see way not, I will ask Libby. Of course you won't sleep in (again) - your hammock will be tied between the 1st 2 trees to be felled :lmao:

That's actually not a bad idea :lmao:

I'm sorry about my sleeping habits - it's just that I don't sleep very well at home for various reasons and I find it very easy to relax in the woods. :o

I'm quite looking forward to this actually. I'd like the chance to fell a small tree with my axe. It's tough going (I've done it before) but something I'd like to have the chance to do again.

...some spring forageables...

What did you have in mind? :D I've a few things I wouldn't mind foraging for while we're there. Nothing major, just a few leaves and stuff.

By the way guys, I've been thinking - do you reckon Libby and Dave would mind if we pulled apart one of their ant hills? Not destroy it, just 'harvest' some of it? :o

nickg
06-05-2008, 21:13
I looked in a couple of the anthills earlier this year and they were empty - no life at all - I dont know if they hibernate or something.

Sorry to say I cant make it as usual but have fun

COTW if you still have some pyrites perhaps you could leave a piece in the woodpile and i could pick it up another time

I've still got a stash of it knocking about Nick, I'll try to remember to bring some bits along for you.

I'll do a harvest before we come down Switch, it'll be a mix of leaves and shoots probably stuff like mallow, ransomes, hairy bittercress, sea beet, sorrel, charlock, hop tops, sea purslane, orach, nettle... well, all manner of stuff really. Some you can try raw and some can be cooked. If I get lucky we might have some fungi too, I foraged a nice young Dryads Saddle a couple of days ago which was pretty good.

Now it's persisting down and blowing again so I can't get out and I'm no happier. When's the date of the next one? I need a bushcrafty fix!

Sorry for the late reply I was away this week

All ages welcome - parental responsibility applies , we have had much younger people with no problems.

£10 per person contribution to the site for an overnight & following day. £5 for the day only

No 'regulars' have confirmed they are doing the overnight, there are wardens on site who are happy to help. They have occasional campers & hammocks welcome.

Take some drinking water as there is no mains supply

search for 'Kent Meet' threads will show previous details
There are now free range eggs from hens that forage in the woods 'usually' available for sale
