I love my dd hammock no special knots needed just tie it like a shoe lace and your good to go, and comfy isnt the word.

I have a DD, and I find it is ok for lazing in the garden for a few hours, but it is too short for getting to sleep in. Too short and to narrow. I'm 6'1" and quite wide (both shoulders and waist :(
so unless you are a racing snake, you'll need a longer hammock

I have a DD and its great, comfy and I find it long enough for me and i'm 6.2

I have a DD and find it ideal for me. I'm 5' 9" so i don't find it narrow or short, even with a decent dossbag and thermalite. Being double layered it will take a sleeping mat inside, but they do have a tendency to slip about if you use a small one.

Mine gets a 10/10

There's tons of threads on here, for the money it's good, not too light but strong and well made. I got the one with the built in midgie net, a must if you're up here.

I have the normal DD and have made good and bad (but curable) experiences.
As with 99% of the commercial hammocks that I know about, it could be longer. Thats why I started making my own, starting with 11feet of fabric. But it
fits my 172cm quite ok.
I really like the integrated ropes, makes pitching it easier.
For short periods of rest, the double-layered bottom comes in handy, because I can insert a thin pad (I wouldnt dream of using a pad in a Hammock for sleeping, but thats another story)
As delivered, I couldnt sleep in it. the reason being, the long sides where far to floppy for my liking and didnt give enough support to relax and fall asleep. This problem was easily cured by shortening the long sides a little bit: on each side, a cut-off piece of a MTB-handlebar grip (ca 1") was wrapped in the fabric and tightly whipped. Now its exactly as I like it.

My DD's the dog's danglies, I'm only 5' 6" but a bit on the heavy side & it fits perfectly, ,it will just wrap round me with my sleeping gear on top & when inside it gets very cosy & keeps the midges out. I didn't bother with the one with the net as I new you could sleep inside the double layer. One of my best buys I think. :)

ive just bought a dd hammock havent slept in it yet although put it up in the woods it seems good didnt think the tarp was to great thoguh ,it is made of two peices of material if it gets windy it could tear in half and the seam wasnt seam sealed so i had to do that to it as well ,hammock seems ok the tarp is crap in my opinion and they dont send 7mtrs of cord like they say its about 4 or 5 mtrs longdont think id buy another tarp off them id probably use 2 us army ponchos.oh and the stuff sack ripped the 1st time i used it this item did not meet my expectations of outdoor gear if the stuff sack rips how long will the tarp last . i wish i had spent an extra £15 and bought a hennesy of ebay but each 2 his own but i wouldnt buy dd stuff again as i need dependable stuuf that will be of use in the wild .the tarp is ok for light summer backyard camping.im gonna use the hammock n tarp this week end but i think ill still take the trusty british army bivi bag as back up in case the dd tarp comes apart at the seams. i may be wrong it may give me years of service but im just not confident in it ,having said that the hammock seems ok although i did hear a few noises like thread snapping when i got in it although i am 14 stone.seems more of an item for a lightweight or for children back yard camping. buy the hammock it cheap enough if u dont like it uve not lost much but save up buy a decent tarp made with 1 peice of material.

Love my DD, got the one with the mosie net after a friend raved about his. I'm 6'1 and find it's fine length-wise.

Like I said on another thread, it's not the lightest or most glamourous of things but it works and if you don't mind a little extra weight it's good value.

The tarp is a little on the small side for me, at 3x2, mine seemed to be sealed fine though and I've used it in very heavy rain with no problems.

The tapes on the hammock itself I find a bit on the short side too. However, have had no problems since I found Red's set up guide. He uses carabiners, I now use them too and longer tapes :-

I have a DD and only used it once still working on the Sleeping Pad thing and debating on the underblanket but am weight conscious. I'm short 5'7'' and of the lardy variety but I found it comfortable. I have the one with the midgie net and the only thing that rankles me is the single zip on it. Lovely kit though

You'll find the new DD Hammocks are longer and have a double layer for you to put in some insulation.

There's two types of DD. The Camping (without a mossie net) and the Travel hammock (with a mossie net).

I've done a couple of entries and a comparison review (http://pablo475.blogspot.com/search?q=ddhammocks)on my blog. There's also a link to YouTube where I set them up in the field as Litefoot said.

There are fancier hammocks but I find these do the job for the price.

I've a DD camping hammock. I've yet to use it but it seems like a very good piece of kit to me. Also for tarps, I bought a Fox one from fleabay (circa £30). All fully taped, has 4 ridge loops & 5 loops along each side and 2 loops under the ridge for a mozzie net (16 in total). I've also just about finished making my underblanket (see aboth thread for that - pictures and diagrams with dimensions).

I too have the travel DD hammocmk with built in net. I've used it with and without a tarp and it's excellent, you can use it on a nice clear night with no tarp and stare up at the stars and still be assured that not small twigs or bugs will fall onto you during night unlike an open hammock. I also use a DPM tarp and it's a good fit but only just, any smaller and it wouldn't keep the rain off. I still think the travel hammock is amazing though, the compartment underneath is perfect for putting underblanket, mat or thermarest or even clothes as i once did with my smock, it was creased but it was cosy in the morning after me lying on it. The travel hammock is a decent size, i'm 5'10" and it's got plenty of room for me plus you can also hang things from the inside on the loops. I usually hang camera, torch and knife here for during the night.

I have a DD hamock and find it comfortable and easy to put up and good value for the money,but as said there tarps are not so good buy your own tarp.

I've got a Basha and a Magikelly hammock. I found the hammock to be a bit too long (I'm 5'10") So I tied a couple of knots in the material. Even at the shortened length, the hammock only just fits under a square mounted basha. Mounted in a diamond shape, a bit more cover is given, but it's still a close thing.

I had a night out with only a poncho as a cover. The only way to deflect the gusty drizzle was to lower the tarp just a few inches from the hammock.

Although I'll probably stick with the basha for now, if I buy another tarp (for a hammock) it'll either be 4x4 (sounds enormous, but gives a good 12" either end of hammock, plus space under to keep rucksac dry), or a tarp designed to be hung diagonally, or a tarp with "beaks" on the end. It won't be DPM either.

Just noticed that the new 2008 DD Travel Hammock is now in stock on their website. Looks as though they have incorporated a few of Pablo's suggestions ...... looks like the mosquito net has 2 bungees to connect it to the ridge line, super fine mesh (for the midgies) and longer ropes. It says there are 2 zips as well ........ not sure if that means the mosquito net has a zip and the “sleeping pad compartment” has a zip or that the mosquito net has 2 zippers on it?

Can anyone tell me if you can roll the mosquito net away completely so that it becomes an “open” hammock? If not do you think it could be modified to do so i.e. if the zips extend the full length of the hammock then you could just roll it down and add a few loops along the side to secure it out of the way one the side of the hammock?

no need to mod the hammock just turn the hammock over, the net hangs down out of the way

BM, when it's unzipped it still tends to lay over the top of the hammock so you definitely need something to keep it away to one side.

I had a look at h2o's post:

h2o:"it is made of two peices of material if it gets windy it could tear in half and the seam wasnt seam sealed"- our Tarps are made from 2 pieces of material however there has never been a case of one tearing, that I'm aware of, the double stitching is strong and its stitchd with an overlap in such a way that the seam does not need sealing - they will definately not let water in. They are heavy duty tarps, hence they are not the lightest tarps around - they are designed to keep you dry in any weather. "the stuff sack ripped the 1st time i used it" - sorry to hear this happened - definately not normal and we'd happily replace it if he contacts us.

One problem we had in the past was with the corner eyelets not being as strong as we'd have liked, we strengthened these recently. I've attached a couple of photos of a corner of the tarp from both sides. Tried to get a photo of the seam where the 2 pieces of material join but unfortunately doesn't show up very well in the photo.

Thanks for the update.

I ripped the seam on my hammock stuff sack when trying to stuff my hammock in a different way - with crabs and extra webbing attached - was my fault though and a quick run through the sewing machine and it was good as new.

Am also pretty sure my DD 3x2 tarp has webbing sewn onto the corner reinforcements.
