Hi Guys and Gals,

I have quest for you. When I was a young lad my father gave me a book on survival he had picked up in second hand shop. I took this book on ever scout trip and adventure and it became a great source of inspiration. But several years later my younger bother (as they do) lent it to someone and forgot who he gave it to. I have only just for given him.

As the mists of time have thickened between then and now my memoir has faded but I would like to be able to bring some of it back. So here is the quest help find my childhood.

The book was a hardback (the one I had had no dust cover but the original may have) it was porridge like in colour with a hiking boot sole print in brown diagonally across the front the cover. Survival was in the title but thats all I can remember. I cannot recall the Author which is my big problem.

Like Mors book it had a good section on knifes there use and care written at the beginning of the book. The text (if I remember correctly) was in columns and there were only drawings no photos.

Well there it is. I figured this might be the best place to start as I now one or two of you have big book shelfs and might be able to point me in the right direction as were I can find a copy.

Any help whats so ever is really appreciated.

Many Thanks
James

Hi...

Maybe check in the BCUK store... http://www.bushcraftuk.net/bcukstore/books/main.php?
Off course you can't see the contents, but if you find a book there, who seems like the one your brother lost, you can go to www.amazon.com or the co.uk. and check there. Sometimes they let you view inside the book and the first pages.

I've got that book at home with a big footprint on the front. It didn't come with a dust cover designed for use I think. I will check all the details when I get home and see if it is the one you are thinking of. The favorite section in my book was the real life stories (some of which Ray has retold in his DVD series).

I'll be home in an hour or so and I'll find the title at least.

The BCUK book store links straight to amazon.... just click the book ;-)

A good pocket sized basic survival book (it has good axe-work and knots in it) is:
