Some might have seen Jack Osbornes Mongol Rally the other night. This has got me thinking that I'd like to do it in a few years time (can't do it next year as I'm getting married at the time it's happening).

The rules of this rally are simple, you have to drive a car of less than one litre from Hyde Park in London to Mongolia. Crossing Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Kazaksthan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzthan and finally into Mongolia. The cool thing about it is it'll combine bushcrafting skills as most nights will be spent camping under the stars (The rally takes about a month to complete). I have dicussed it with a couple of friends and they seem very keen, so now the main consideration is the vehicle.

We're currently thinking either one of the following:

Bedford Rascal/ similar mini van (mainly for the space).

Suzuki SJ410 (seems to be a popular choice amongst other rally drivers plus it's 4x4).

Fiat Panda (this was actually used by Jack Osbornes team and my friend who is going has a particular soft spot for them, again available as a 4x4).

Anyone else have any ideas for a vehicle?

As a member of the F1000 rally club (only for cars of 1 litre or less) the most popular car is a Nissan Micra but Pug 205/106's, Anglias, Citroen AX's (like mine) are also around. If you search in europe you should be able to find a 4x4 AX. Alternatively the Fiat Panda 4x4 with the 998 Fire engine is a good mix.

Have a look at www.formula1000.co.uk for other ideas.

Heck, you could even buy my car from me! - It's not 100% finished yet (about 96%) but I could soon sort that for you.
