I just went for a stroll round some local fishing lakes - they have some nice woods there and I was feeling down in the dumps with my terrible cold. Saw this critter buzzing around and on a whim held my hand out - he just flew right to it as though I'd trained him... Don't you love it when stuff like that happens.

Picture is a bit dodgy as I took it left handed and couldn't get the macro mode set.

And caught these two "in the act"...:o

This fella posed quite nicely for me too

Also the place I walked had loads of fruits (sloes, blackberries and all sorts) so I'll have to pop back when I'm feeling better. Though my cold is as bad as ever I'm much cheered up.

Lovely shots. My girlfriend bought a new digital camera (a Ricoh Caplio R5, if that means anything to anyone) and caught a few very nice macro pics, but those are just gorgeous.

When I used to canoe in the States a dragonfly would often land on the paddle blade as I was drifting. Wonderful moments, although rather inconvenient if I needed to manoeuvre!

Cor! BcUK has gone all porny!! Nice shots by the way. Are you in the meditteranean? It's gloomy as hell here today, there's no way you're in Britain!

Nope - I'm down in sunny Somerset. These were taken at a place called Thorney Lakes. A really good "conventional" campsite with good fishing. http://www.thorneylakes.co.uk/

Reminded me of a camping trip to France a couple of years back - It was so hot that I used to go and sit in the river with a big wet floppy hat on. The dragonflies would settle on me like I was a big rock - had 10 or so at one time on my hat.

Mace - they are just gorgeous shots!

A textbook shot of the comma butterfly and the hawker dragnflies are fantastic - are they commons or southerns (never good at knowing)

Beautiful shots

I'm saying Southerns. Had a look on http://www.dragonflysoc.org.uk/aecya.html and the piccy they have on there of a pair mating looks almost identical.

Thanks for the encouragement again as always Red. Really makes up for this darned cold...
