I was up a wet and windy Welsh hill last night with my trusty tarp and all was fine and dandy save for every now and again some divil of a gust would flap the tarp with a crack like a gunshot.
I had the ridgeline rigged to a rock on the high end pegged close to the ground at t'other, lwindward end. Tarp was slung under the ridgeline with Penberty prusiks for tension.Corners were all guyed out tight with clove hitches as were the two mid-dide loops.
Any ideas, suggestions? Or is it earplugs?

I tend to have a bit of bungie cord in the system somewhere to take up any slack.

Works most of the time but very strong wind can still be a problem.

Try using a taught line hitch like the one at the bottom of here (www.iland.net/~jbritton/Friction%20Hitches.html) I've used them in all weather conditions and have never let me down and are easily adjustable should they slacken or become slightly loose due to a wet tarp. The only difference is that were the working end of the rope is pulled through put a loop in there then it becomes quick release.
