View Full Version : making my own tarp - need a bit of webbing/eyelet advice
i've got 17 metres of 2 metre wide ripstop dpm (proper army stuff) off a mate, so i'm going to make a couple of tarps.
i'm going to use 25mm webbing, and have found someone on the bay who will do 50m of green 25mm for £11.50 delivered - is that a good price?
also i would like to put some eyelets round the edge, but something heavy duty that will go throught he webbing and hold, unlike the eyelets in a couple of cheap tarps that i've bought.
any advice/links would be great
thanks everyone!

I've looked at these before, not sure if they will do the job or not but here's the link:

Eyelets are often a point of failure, small webbing loops might be more reliable in the longer term.
Just a thought :D

i was thinking of both - i take the metal poles that hold up the canopy of my big tent(the type that slot together with a spike on the end) for times when trees are not available, and just want to put an eyelet in the middle of each side to form a ridgeline with the poles if i need to(if that makes sense)
all the guy points will be loops, although i could just put in very small loops to site the spikes on the poles

Fully agree there Scoops,
If it were me, I'd be leaving any thoughts of eyelets out, and doing it all with webbing loops. If you sew in a triangular reinforcing patch at each corner, you can sandwich a loop of webbing folded to about 60 degrees which creates a very strong loop and should still fit through the sewing machine OK.
