Tone.

This is a hedgelayers main tool and they are better known as a Yorkshire Hook. They are beautiful to use and you can use them with one hand and or with both, hence the long handle. You can swing these like hell and cut almost any pleacher within the hedge. I have one here and we do supply many to the hedgelayers of the country.

If the in right hands, a Yorkshire is powerful enough to behead a man.

The one on ebay is a very nice example of a Yorkshire, and depending who the manufacture is could make big money.

The seller is from Bishopsworth, now that's an interesting place name.

Being a Yorkshireman myself , I must say I agree with you.

But £65 seems like silly Money to me.

Maybe its because I'm a Yorkshireman??

It's not bad for the money. If it is a certain brand, you could double that price and then add a £100 and it will stand for the money.

Not telling you what brand is worth so much though :naughty:

I picked one up in a car boot last week for £1.

It’s has written on it
FARKES + CO LTD
BIRMINGHAM
BIPE 1500
It looks very old. Can any body tell me anything about it?
Cheers

That's a pity, Jack. I was hoping you might educate us on what to look out for at car boot sales, etc.

A few months ago I bought what feels (to me) a really lovely billhook. It's in good condition, but needs to be properly edged and sharpened. It just feels good in the hand. It's stamped J.Fenner Maker Boarshead.

go on Jack tell us what the brand - that way we can "rescue" them and put it to proper use.

Good evening Den.

The Parkes is another great name in the world of all things billhooks! Have many myself and you should see, stamped on the blade, a pair of boots and some numbers which are their stock code and the lenght of the bill.

And the hooks that you really want to keep an eye out for are.................. :naughty:
