Hello all!

Am a tyro at woodcraft, but have picked up some by the osmosis of watching the site for a while.

Heres my first posting outside of the Welcomes and I will be thankful if I get this one away without causing a drop in the oil price, or something equally catastrophic.

Its for the cognoscenti of this forum, its probably heretical and, doubtless, typical of the daft questions you get asked. Personally, I have never thought that knives were anything other than things to cut yourself on, while rummaging around in a drawer for something else; but here goes.

Pre-empting some of the obvious, I have looked in the archives and,
couldnt find a useful answer.

Have a Helle Tor for kitchen work, I really like the clonking great handle and the fact that you dont get the taint of battery terminals on everything. Can,t say I,m happy about using this outside , battering the blade and handle as appears to be the wont.

Is there anything, " off the peg", of heft and style, preferably carbon, but with emphasis on a same-ish meaty sized / shaped handle.

The Helle Tor was discontinued a few years ago. www.ragweedforge has a few remaining for sale @ $75 USD. Why not have a look at his website. You probably will want to order from a UK dealer, but he is a great reference for most of the scandinavian blades.
