Camp fire poems by Clayton Klein as recommended by HOODOO arrrived today - excellent shout Hoodoo. It has Service peoms I didnt know in it as well as many others. :super:

And creme-del-a-creme a copy of Richard GRAVES Bushcraft. THis people is the bible! Forget your trade mark man and Essential Bushcraft, even Mors Kochanaki pales beside it.

I haven't read it all but I can see how good it is and can't wait to dig in and read more.

If you get the chance to get this book DO IT! :-D :-D :-D :-D

WWW.ABEBOOKS.CO.UK they have several seconds - ordered mine from Uncle Sam and it arrived in less than a week.

Sitting here reading it now and grinning like a cheshire cat.

Abe have it from about £10 upwards.

Hows this for a quote -

Bushcraft, by developing adaptability, provides a broadening influence, a necessary counter to offset the narrowing influence of modern specialisation. (back to basics?)

or

The practice of bushcraft conserves, and does not destroy, wild life.

Yep, in order to get a copy for a decent price I had to order a copy from oz,
I think there may be various reprints, mine is in paperback with purple covers and an orange campfire on the front cover, I have seen copies with green covers which I think is an updated copy.
Great book, good chapter on cordage.

p.s. I think I paid about £14 for mine including postage. Took about 10 days to arrive.

Well I have just finished Richard Graves - what a excellent book.

Novices, gifted amateurs or experienced woodsman if you had this book and Mors Kochanski in your library you would have all the books you ever needed baring FIELD GUIDES for plant I.D - I honestly mean that.

More importantly like Mors this book is a practical manual written by someone who knows his subject there is no fanciful stories, no romantising, no distractions from the facts. There is no re-harshed info re-written by someone who has never used it andit is not a 'fan' manual with no, Me, I, when I, arent I great statemenets just good practical information and down to earth skills.

I cannot recommend it enough. :super:

Following Gary's post, the name of the book rang a bell - I had a look on my bookshelves and there - lo and behold - was 1a mint copy of Graves' 'Bushcraft'. And I'd forgotten I had it! It's the one with the purple cover with orange campfire. It looks like I must have got it second-hand from somewhere and has 3 quid written inside the cover - result!

On these recommendations, I'm going to sit down and re-read it.

My Richard Graves book arrived a week ago....WOW what a read and can see exactly what Gary means when he says that with this and the Mors Kochanski book you really have pretty much everything at your fingertips.

After having read so many books, it is easy to see how the other books have pretty much rehashed what is in Graves and Kochanski's books..........
