:D after the success of the first meet near reading i think it would be good to have a regular get to gether of bushcrafters from the local area. it would be a good opportunety to share knowledge/skills . the area we will be using has a large variety of trees/plants so there should be plenty of things to do/practice.
if you are intrested pm me .:D :D

Count me interested. Life is a little busy, but I would love to get out a little more. I was gutted not to get out for the Spring Moot or the local to Basingstoke one, so I must be due for a change of luck pretty soon :-)

Hello fellow bushcrafters, I have at last managed to register and get on line. I would like to say a big thankyou to my new found bushcraft buddies for the way they have welcomed me into the group this year and for all their individual time and effort in showing me different bushcraft techniques. This would be Jason, Silverback, Lupus, Seorus, Aaron and 3Please. I feel as though I have learn't alot since April and look forward to learning alot more. Also looking forward to meeting up in August and cooking up the usual Saturday night slap up meal for all those in attendance (Hick!) regards Jon

Sorry mate, we'll be in Cardiff watching Oz v. Wales.

I did a bit of BC on the way home tonight. Wife dropped me in town to get my supper (kebab). Well, walkingthrough the park I found a Birch tree with a branch pulled off. So one rough fork later... :D
Oddly enough, not one passer-by raised an eyebrow at my whittling! And by the river there are quite a few passers by. Maybe peeps around here haven't heard of the dangerous knife wielding maniacs abroad in our towns? ;)
Threw the rubbish in a bin, but kept the bag & scored some tinder on the way home. :)

i think it's sad that more people don't get out round here .you and i have sorted out woods so that people can get out and practice there skills and learn to be more at home out doors . we have a Passion for bushcraft and want to make it available to every one, an opportunity to meet like minded people and share skills and knowledge.
it seems to me that out of the thousands of registered people on here very thew get out there and actually do bushcraft. :soapbox: :sigh:

Hi fellas. Thanks for a fab weekend, I really enjoyed myself and, perhaps more importantly, I learnt some stuff too. I hope to be invited to future events. A bit thanks and soggy hug to Mark for the invite, tha banock and the hospitality. If Pete could send me the details of his huge, massive, and impressive tarp, I'd be grateful. I've also read that the hamock underblanket has at last found a commercial supplier and will be available soon. That is good news.
Thanks again guys and I hope to see you again.
Jonathan (I really do need to come up with a more imaginative 'handle')

Was good to catch up guys and meet Andy and Jon too. Gutted I could only get down for the day again.

Mark the Amethyst's are drying out as I type, no idea if they will dry well or not. But will be interesting to try. Saw a couple of Parasols coming up on our way out, about 50m from that back gate on the right as you walk towards it, in the 'ditch' that runs along the track. Really good eating, beat up an egg and brush it over them and coat in toasted breadcrumbs and fry.

See you in a few weeks.

All being well Mark, I will be at yours for Friday - can you PM a grid ref for the camp site so I don't need to prat about with a mobile when I get there? :D.

With regards to the Saturday scoff I am going to need to start firming up on numbers now so I will use this post to start the list. I only need to know if you are eating on Saturday night so I can aquire all the necessary ingredients. I MUST stress that if you are not on the list you will NOT be guaranteed a meal and need to see whats left in the trough after the rest have fed (past experience suggests you will be able to see your face in the bottom of the trough at this stage :lmao: ). If you are attending and wishing to eat but are not on the list PM me on or before the 4th Feb. Ok a quick update on Saturday's grub - I have 6 rabbits prepped for 7 people. I am going to cook everything with the exception of the dumplings on Thursday night. The rabbit meat will be kept separate from the sauce and will be reheated over the fire in the sauce whilst also cooking the dumplings. The creamy mash will only require heating up and 'refluffing' :naughty: as I will cook that in advance also. Everything will be refrigerated until I set off on Friday (Do you have a fridge I can transfer the stuff into Mark?) - The cost of the meal will be £4.00 per head to cover the ingredients; I hope that is acceptable with everyone :)

have any of you chaps got smaller(ish) size tarps that you wouldn't mind bringing along so i can have a looksy. i have a hex fly and another 3x3 job which are all pretty big and relatively heavy. i'm trying to go lightweight at the moment with my backpacking kit so would like to see how much use a smaller one would be.

i won't sleep under it or need it, it would just be useful to see how useful it is when pitched and what the area underneath is like in different configurations.

if not then its no big deal, would just be an ideal opportunity

cheers

Here is the deal boys - I will bring the rabbits and dumplings but will post up the remainder of the ingredients for a wicked stew. All those that want to eat should amend the list with their name beside an ingredient or utencil and bring it along, simple as that. Keep your receipts and we will all throw in to cover the cost of the meal - here goes

Ingredients

8 wild rabbits SILVERBACK
16 Herb Dumplings SILVERBACK
1000g salt pork, pancetta or bacon BEN
4 large onions PABLO
12 large carrots PABLO
16 celery sticks PABLO
8 bay leaves PABLO
4 sprigs of thyme PABLO
2 litres cider medium or dry but not sweet AARON
Jar of honey LUPUS
Salt and freshly ground black pepper PABLO
2 bags potatoes suitable for mash LUPUS
Butter LUPUS
Full fat milk PABLO

Utencils

Potato peeler SILVERBACK
Stew pot SILVERBACK
Frying pan PITKIN
Hand held whisk SILVERBACK
Potato masher SILVERBACK
Large pot for potatoes PITKIN
Put up portable table SILVERBACK
Ladle SILVERBACK
Tongs SILVERBACK

This will obviously only work if you remember to bring what you have committed to. If successful this will be an excellent way of putting together some seriously fine fayre with contributions from everyone - let's see how it goes :)

Regards

Dave (Silverback)

Nice one Mark got your message (I was putting the kids to bed ;) ) - The murika might be a tad small as we need to fry the pancetta/bacon then use the fat for softening the onion and browning the rabbit - there will be a lot of fat from the pancetta etc.

I shall be fashioning an apron from birch bark - this is bushcraft after all

Excellent response so far (thanks Lupus Pablo and Aaron). Mark I am going to keep the request for a frying pan as I think the Murika will be too shallow to hold all the fat in.

We still require:

1000g salt pork, pancetta or bacon
Frying pan
Large Pot for the Potatoes

I don't know the numbers due for this weekend, looks like a lot of food, but I'm a 2, me plus a mate i'm bringing along - his first bushcraft experience. Will that affect dinner?

Actually, please can someone confirm definite numbers, I have a funky idea for dessert...

A kilo?! Sounds excellent. I'll get that, more likely bacon than pancetta/salt pork

Don't have a frying pan or large pot suitable for this I'm afraid so can't help there

Dave, if we're having mash do you want me to get some cream/garlic/salt/pepper etc?

Dave, if we're having mash do you want me to get some cream/garlic/salt/pepper etc? If its not too much bother Ben, yes. I will stand Aaron down on the milk ;)

Still looking for a frying pan and pot for the spuds people :)

Will make a nice change to be eating while you can still see to cook :D
