have recently aquired a dead squirrel (road kill) and wanted to keep the tail, perhaps ad it to my hat or to a bag or some thing else.

was wondering how to cure or preserve it, does any one have any experience with this sort of thing (ie taxidermist (sp?))

thanks alot

Try contacting your local brach of the Fly Dressers Guild. Squirrel tails are used in a lot of fly dressing & a few of their members will know how best to preserve wild harvested (or roadkill) specimens!

Yes, what to do is make a small cut at the base of the tail to increase the hole size where the bone is, then hold the bone with mole grips or pliers, then peel the tail back and pull the skin off. You should be left with a complete tail bone and a complete tail with hair in each hand. What to do is then scrape any fat and meat off the skin, if you like you can soak it in borax over night that will cure and kill anything nasty, then just dry it and sew the wee cut up. Done.
