Sometime ago I bought a ferro rod from Ray Mears website - to practice on different types of tinder.
I am looking at getting another one now but am experiencing quite a variation in price from different websites.
Anybody got any views on qualities of build?
Dont get ones that are in a metal holder in a key shape if you want a long lasting one. once you have worn a liottle bit away you can't scrape t with your knife as the holder gets in the way. It's also a little small but still lights cotton wool and char cloth. I'm after a sweedish fire steel there is a thread on british blades about the cheapest place to get one
Swedish firesteels are much or a muchness - personally I'd steer clear of anything else. So, you can get a firesteel like this:

or this:
http://www.tregor.co.uk/firesteel.htm
Of if you want something with a bit more kick, this is th BlastMatch:

I hope this helps!
